------------chapter 2.25 starts here------------

Jake's PoV

I left Marcus at the tent and started walking back. I wished I could go in and help out with all the planning, but unfortunately I wasn't part of the police.

Marcus was alone on this one. Poor guy.. Having to go through that whole ordeal alone. One full year almost dedicated just to Isa... And he couldn't share it with anyone. Not even me.

But then again, at least now he had the police to share everything with. I could trust them to keep him sane.

Even if I had wanted to break in, everyone in that building was a policeman. Evading them once inside would be impossible.

The guards were no slackers either. They protected the tent as if their life depended on it. Which it did...

I heard a whoosh above me as something flew over my head, landing on top of the tent beside which I stood.

I spun around, arms ready to fight whatever it was up there if it attacked me, but all I was greeted with was the sound of running. I ran in the direction of the sound, following it. It had to be a person- the movements were too coordinated to be anything else. But any human would have to be incredibly skilled to be able to run on the slanted, somewhat unstable roof of the tent like that. Especially with how little noise they were making.

As I ran, following the sounds from the roof, I could occasionally make out a hand or a leg. Not much though. Just a glimpse.

But I could easily discern the direction in which the person was heading.

The police tent.

-----------------------------------

I continued to chase the mystery person through the streets. This person was jumping from tent to tent almost as fast as I could run. And I could make 100 meters in 12 seconds. Whoever it was had to be a professional.

I didn't have much time to catch up. We were nearing the tent. I used the last reserves of my energy as I put in one final sprint.

Looking ahead, I saw that the distance between the police tent and the nearest tent was about six meters. As soon the person failed the jump, I'd catch him on the ground, and find out what was going on. There was no valid reason for running on the roofs of the tents.. Was there?

But what happened next surprised me.

The person jumped. But not normally. The person twisted while jumping, eyes locking onto mine.

And I could get my first full body glimpse of the person I was chasing.

It was a girl.

We just had a moment of eye contact. But, in that moment, the information flowing from her eyes overwhelmed me.

Blonde hair. Blue eyes. A twisted smile. And a look in her eyes saying- "catch me if you can"

And with that, she flung a paper pellet towards my feet, continuing to pirouette on her trajectory to the police tent.

Her landing was muffled. Almost immediately, I could hear the sound of ripping fabric as she cut a hole in the tent.

She had got away from me..

I leaned forward to pick up the pellet, and slowly opened it, almost as if I knew what it was going to say.

"Better luck next time."
