Yes guys, you read right.. An update :P
------------chapter 8.25------------Jake's PoV
As soon as the shadow started to move towards the tent, I raised my right hand. If I pinned her to the ground, I'd be able to get information about why she was here. Why she was chasing me.
And the easiest way to do that was to get the element of surprise.
Just at the shadow reached the tent, I thrust out my arm, ready to grab her head into a lock.
But something was wrong.
As the figure came into my line of sight, my eyes confirmed that it wasn't in fact her.
I was barely able to avoid the face of my target, attempting to cover up by wrapping my arms around her. The shadow had been that of my mom's.
I let out a sigh of relief. Luckily mom didn't seem to notice the awkwardness of my hug.
But that relief quickly dissipated. The first shadow had definitely been Anya's. But if this was my mom, where was Anya?
I was interrupted by the voice of my mom. "It's so nice of you to bring your girlfriend to meet us!"
I frowned at first, confused at what she had meant, but quickly covered it up with a smile. The "girlfriend" must have referred to Anya. She was smart to try and use that to throw me off. And that way, mom wouldn't even be suspicious about her.
But the situation had changed. And my plan had to be adjusted as well. I couldn't wrestle any information out of her in front of my mom.
"Give me a few minutes with her. Then you guys can catch up." I said, walking out of the tent.
As soon as my head passed through the folds of the tent, a hand flew at me from the right, knocking me over and pinning me to the ground.
But somehow it wasn't Anya. I just knew that.
It made perfect sense for me to get attacked by Anya right now, but I couldn't shake off the doubt that it wasn't her.
As I landed on my left side, I got a good glimpse of my assailant. It wasn't Anya.
"Why?-" was all I could ask before the same hand came crashing down onto my skull. The impact was so hard that it was a struggle to stay conscious. But I couldn't pass out. If I did, it might be the last time I'd pass out.
Putting all my effort into it, I was able to raise my arm to strike at my assailant's neck. But my blow never made contact. Or more accurately I'd never know if it made contact. Before my blow could land, another blow to my skull pushed me from that point I was hanging onto for dear life into the dark abyss of unconsciousness.
