------------chapter 7 starts here------------
The scream from inside the tent was one of agony. Hearing this kind of scream from anyone would make me pray for their health. But this was so much worse.. Because it was Isa's scream.
Pushing Isa's mom aside, I ran into the tent. There was no time for formalities.
But what I saw inside made me wish I had never come inside.
Mom was standing over Isa, who was gripping her left hand tightly as she wailed in pain. She spat onto the ground. "I told you to stay out of my way girl."
What was she doing? How could she hurt Isa like this??
Her stance changed. She was about to attack again. I had to neutralize her before she did anything else.
I did the only thing I could think of.
"MOM!"
She paused for a moment, giving me the chance to execute my plan. I ran up to her as she turned, kicking her right leg out from beneath her, while at the same time hooking my right arm around her shoulder and pinning her to the ground.
With my left hand, I grabbed the knife by the blade, prying it out of her hands- her grip loosened by the fall and tossed it away.
I looked over to Isa's mom. "Help me restrain her!" I shouted. She hurried over to me, helping me hold my mother's flailing arms down. Finally, when I had my mom pinned, she grabbed my mom from behind, executing a choke hold.
"Marcus.. You should be helping..." Mom said, losing consciousness. "It's for your father..." She said, before finally passing out.
--------------------------------------------------
I looked at Isa, unable to frame a sentence for what I had to say. There was no way she's even talk to me right now. My mom had just stabbed her in the hand! And more importantly, I wasn't there for her when her father almost died.
I knew that what would happen next would cause much heartbreak for me. But I had to try and fix what I had done wrong.
"Isa, I'm sorry."
Her eyes betrayed none of her emotions.
"I know I should have been here for you when your dad got hurt. I just couldn't stand the fact that you might not like me anymore."
I paused again, looking at her bandaged hand. Even three layers of cotton were not enough to soak up the amount of blood she was losing.
"And your hand... If I was here, I could have stopped this from happening."
I looked at my own left hand. It had a pretty bad cut from when I had pulled the knife out from mom's hand, but it was nothing compared to Isa's.
"I know that our relationship is probably beyond saving, but I want to know that I'll love you forever."
Saying that, I leaned in to kiss her.
------------------------------------------
10 months ago
I looked at Isa, wondering what to ask for my fifth and final question. She had to answer it. No lies.
"What was your first kiss like?"
She looked at me, her cheeks turning a light pink.
"I haven't had one."
My jaw dropped to the floor. "Really? How is that even possible?"
Her blush turned to a deeper, almost cherry red.
"Okay okay that's enough of that. Game's over," she said, trying to change the topic-obviously embarrassed that I was seeing her like this.
"Wait no! That doesn't count!" I protested. "At least tell me what you want it to be like."
She paused for a moment.
"I want it to mean something. I want the person who kisses me to show me exactly how much they love me. I want it to be something special that I can remember for the rest of my life."
-------------------------------------------
I tried to put all my feelings for her- since the day we met into that one kiss. My first and her first. If she didn't still like me then probably my last as well.
Her lips were softer than I had ever imagined and her hair felt like strands of silk as it flowed across my hands. Her intoxicating fragrance made me just want to pause that moment forever and ever.
I opened my eyes, unsure if she was returning the kiss.
And then I snapped back to my senses. I couldn't believe I'd done something so stupid. How could I kiss her like this after everything I'd done??
I immediately pulled back.
Isa simply glared at me. Then she raised her right hand. And slapped me on the cheek.
My cheek cried out in pain. But nothing compared to the pain in my heart.
"DON'T. EVER. DO. THAT. AGAIN." She said, pausing after each word for emphasis.
And then she pulled me back into the kiss.
