------------chapter 7.1 starts here------------

Anya's PoV

I stood outside the tent, slightly out of breath. This was the hardest workout I'd had in weeks. Keeping up with Jake was no easy task. Even less so when you constantly had to stay out of his sight.

I could see his shadow just past the entrance to the tent. I'd finally get to talk to him freely.

But could I?

-------------------------------------

Ten months ago

I sat, staring out of my window listening to the chirping of the birds and feeling the light breeze blow across my face. But I wasn't there for that. As appealing as chirping birds and a light breeze were, they weren't anywhere near important enough for me to be sitting there.

I saw a rustle in the bushes.

"Alina! Come here quick!" I shouted.

She rushed over just in time to see two boys emerging from the bushes.

"Which one?" She asked.

"The taller one." I replied, sighing dreamily.

"It'll never work out."

"Why?" I asked, frowning.

"He just broke out of the hospital. Your dad's the police chief. Not a good idea. Besides, have you looked at him? He's way too cool for a girl like you."

My heart sunk. I knew exactly what she was talking about. The way she had unknowingly put emphasis on "like you". No matter how much you sugarcoated it, I was obese to say the very least.

She looked at my disappointment and immediately changed her tone. "You know, if you got yourself into shape, who knows?" She said in an encouraging tone.

I knew it wasn't much of a consolation, but the possibility itself made me almost beam with joy. The fact that Jake- the guy I was following around secretly for almost eight months- might one day like me was just too much to handle.

And that was when I made up my mind. I would do whatever it took.

-----------------------------------------

Four months later

"Stop Anya! This much is not healthy for you!"

I ignored Alina's voice and kept running ahead.

"Anya! Fifteen miles is too much for one day! You'll kill yourself!"

My legs burned. My dry throat burned. But it was nothing compared to the burning passion in my heart.

---------------------------------------

6 more months later

I stood outside the tent, unsure whether I trusted myself with this.

This was the guy who I had spent 10 months training for. And 8 months before that. One and a half year.

And it all came down to one day.

But I couldn't go back. Not now. This could very well be my only chance to talk to him alone.

Biting my lip nervously, I walked towards the entrance of the tent.

------------end of chapter 7.1------------

This chapter is dedicated to lovestruck_gal because I need to make sure she's actually studying and isn't breaking her pinky promise and loafing around on wattpad :P
