I won't tell you that the world matters nothing, or the world's voice, or the voice of society. They matter a good deal. They matter far too much. But there are moments when one has to choose between living one's own life, fully, entirely, completel...
I became anxious about running away to Florida but I knew it had to be done.
"You done with all your stuff?" Denzel asked as he ran around the apartment making sure he has everything.
"Yeah. You?" I asked as I stuffed my bags under my bed.
"Yup, pretty sure I have everything. All we need to do is wait for our time."
"I'm scared but excited." I said.
"Not even gonna lie. I'm scared as shit. What's gonna happen if he catches us?"
"Bruh, you the one that planed this out." I sucked my teeth.
"I ain't say we was backing out though." He gathered all his bags. "We have about three hours till we leave."
"Oh dang. You ri-" My phone started ringing.
"Who is it?" Denzel asked.
I flipped it over. "Rakim."
* Phone Call *
Rakim: Toni. Me: Hey! Rakim: Come meet me somewhere. Me: No! Why? It's late. Rakim: I just want you to meet me around Rosecrans Avenue. Me: Rosecra- no! All the way over there? And it's dangerous. No, I'm not going there. Rakim: Fine. I'll see you later around 1. Me: Good. See you then.
* End Of Phone Call *
I hung up the phone and took a deep breath.
"I heard. We need to go now." Denzel said.
"Now? We still have time!" He frantically raced around the apartment gathering our stuff.
"No. We don't, the uber should be here any second to drop us off at the airport." All our belongings were at the front door.
"Fine. Where are are we gonna go and what are we gonna do for three hours?" I asked.
"Just chill in the airport till its time to go." He plopped down on the couch. "Put on a hoodie and pants or something. It's gonna be cold in there."
"Ok." I went through my suitcase and found leggings, hoodie and a pair of chucks.
