He sat on the end of my bed. "Toni..."

"No. Fuck it, alright?" I whipped a tear away. "I don't even care!"

"You do care." He said.

"No I don't. I'm done caring, I don't even get that shit back so why bend over backwards for someone that doesn't return the favor?"

"We need more people like you to be honest. You're an amazing person."

I rolled my eyes.

I ate a cupcake and licked a spoonful of ice cream. "Mhm."

He smiled. "Good. Yo stomach gon hurt."

"I don't care. It's worth it."

   We chilled in the kitchen in silence until we heard yelling and gunshots from outside. I jumped and we froze.

"The hell?" I said lowly.

"Go check."

"No nigga!" I said.

"Whatever!" He walked over to the window and his jaw dropped. "Yo! Come check this out!"

I shook my head. "I don't want to see any dead bodies! No." I continued to eat my ice cream.

   He dragged me over to the window and I saw a boy around our age laid out on the floor bleeding out across the street. I covered my mouth.

"I only seen Rocky and two other dudes run from the scene."

"Who had the gun!?"

"I couldn't see! They ran so fast down the street! Ain't my fault."

"We have to go down there!"

"NO! That'll make us look suspicious. I don't think you want to go to jail for no reason. Cops hate our pigment." We walked away from the window. I was in shock.

"This nigga is always doing something! For fucks sake, him and his crew need to take several seats!"

"News and police gonna be all over this." He said. "Don't tell anyone what we saw, okay?"

"Okay."

"I know you have a big ass mouth. Don't say nothin'!"

"Bitch I said okay." I rolled my eyes and put the ice cream back in the freezer.

I hit his shoulder. "No, don't even do that. You're book smart but not street smart. Well barley. You only know about them ballers and hoes."
