Waking up the next morning I am alone with a pile of clothes and a note saying in the office. Smiling a true happy smile I pull on the dark grey Henley Cole left for me along with a pair of my shorts.
Quickly making the bed I leave the room and make my way down the hallway where I know my love resides.
Opening the door my heart flutters when Cole smiles at me the way only he can. "Morning Dani. Did you sleep well?" I blush at his question and make my way over to the office couch. Laying down Cole continues to work while we both enjoy the comfort being in the other's company brings to us.
The calm peace we have surrounded ourselves in is ruined when the door flies open revealing none other than Jorden himself.
"Cole you motherfucking dumbass!" He shouts upon arrival. "Do you want to explain to me why I woke up this morning to a phone call from my mother?"
Cole looks up from his computer screen. "Are you implying I control what your mother does in her free time?" Cole lifts his eyebrow up in question, obviously testing his friend.
Jorden groans before flopping down on the couch next to me. "Hi Dani." I wave before he continues on with his rant. "I mean why is she calling me? We haven't talked in like seven years. How the fuck did she even get my number? Huh?"
Cole shrugs, "Went through your father's phone? We all know the bitch is crazy." Jorden groans again upon hearing his friend's theory.
"What did she want anyway?" Cole questions. Jorden sighs before responding. "You know the usual." Cole and Jorden stare at each other for a moment longer before Cole nods and breaks the concentration.
"Are they coming back home soon?" Cole's question causes Jorden to scrunch up his nose. "They haven't lived here in what, ten years? Twelve years?"
Cole furrows together in thought. "I think they've been gone since my father left right?" Jorden nods, "Yeah that sounds about right."
Just then Nona pops her head into the room before entering. "I figured you all would be in here. Come on down breakfast is ready." As if sensing the sorrow and slight tension she hardens her eyes. "What were you both discussing?" Her question is directed towards Cole and Jorden however Jorden responds.
"You know Nona just how you raised us because our parents left us." Sparring a glance in my direction Nona puts her hands on her hips before responding to Jorden.
"I don't want to ever hear either of you say your parents left you ever again you understand me young man?" "Your Father Jorden has continued to play a role in your life since the moment he moved and you damn well know it. He never left, he has always been one call away and there for you when you needed it. I will not ever justify Calla's behaviors but there is more to the story than you know Jorden." "As for Dalton, we all know he never could have been a Father to Cole. You both know why I won't say it." Jorden hangs his head in slight shame as Nona huffs in anger.
"Loretta?" Grandad enters the room next causing me to shift slightly closer to Jorden. "I can feel your anger radiating throughout the house. What has upset you?"
"These two boys feel as if their parents have left them."
Grandad falls silent and allows his thoughts to process. "Loretta, I know how you feel about our son, but..." Grandad never gets to finish because Cole stands up and puts an end to the conversation.
"Enough." His voice is strong and cold but radiates power. "This conversation is over." "We will you meet you downstairs for breakfast." Accepting the cue to go Grandad leads Nona out of Cole's office.
Cole turns to Jorden showing him he meant him as well. In true Jorden fashion he dramatically stands up before sauntering his way out of the room as well.
Closing his eyes and running his hands over his face Cole sighs. With no hesitation I walk over and hug him pouring every ounce of comfort and support I can muster into the hug.
Accepting my presence Cole wraps his arms around my slim figure.
After a decent amount of time spent silent hugging Cole leads me out of the office and down the stairs towards the dining room for breakfast.
However, we never make it to dining room.
A man comes running around the corner. "Alpha!" He shouts breathlessly, "Hunters!" Cole starts shouting orders to the surrounding men. "All warriors outside! Everyone else stay in the packhouse!" What the hell is going on? Cole looks back at me. "Dani please don't leave the house." The way Cole is looking at me, I know not to argue. Cole smiles and pecks my forehead before he leads me over to Nona. "Nona please watch Dani." She smiles in response, "Anytime." Cole kisses my forehead again and quickly hugs me before he sprints out the front door. I still don't know what is going on.
Before anyone can stop me I walk over to the window and peer out. I gasp at what I see. The fear starts to push its way into my system; clouding every feeling I have allowed myself to feel. Cole, he, he is a wolf?
Question of the day: what is your favorite fruit?
