The drive to Cole's estate is for the most part silent. That is until I decide to talk. Seriously though, for a girl who hasn't talked in years why am I the only one starting the conversations?
"Cole" I ask. Making his attention shift to me. "How many languages do you speak?" Cole smiles, "Too many to count Dani." "Seriously," I push, "How many?" "You really want to know?" I send Cole a pleading smile. Cole sighs dramatically before counting off. "Eight." My mouth falls open. "Why?" Cole chuckles. "Obviously I speak English and French. My Nona is Italian. She seems to slip into her native tongue when mad or sad. Grandad has a second home in Greece, they spent their winters there and I used to as well growing up. Grandad also believes every Alpha should know Latin, therefore I was taught it at young ages. My best friend, beside Jorden, is the Alpha of the pack in Brazil. I had to pick up a little Portuguese now didn't I?" "That's only six." I protest. "It is isn't it?" Cole replies. "My Father, was never a good man. When my mother died, he somehow stayed living. Except he became involved in a lot of shit. My Grandparents are not proud of his actions and don't like to take credit for him. My Father has," Cole stops, "business set up in the Netherlands, and Mexico." "Dutch and Spanish." I finish. Cole nods.
"Do you help in this business?" "Goddess no!" Cole exclaims. "My father is in a lot of shit that I would never be a part of and he brings a disgrace to our last name! But he is my Father and I am his blood. I have to know his men, I have to know what he does in order to protect myself and now you. Sadly I can't get by with just Grandad's guidance. As much as it kills me, sometimes I have to ask for my father's direction." "What does he do?" Cole shakes his head. "You don't need to know Dani, just know my father is always my last resort. I would seek my father's help over my cousins, but it kills me to ask him for anything." I roll my eyes. "Men and their pride." Cole sighs but says nothing, just reaches for my hand and holds it.
"Dani, wake up." I open my eyes to see Cole shaking me. We are sitting in the driveway of Cole's country cottage. "I have to warn you, I'm not sure when the last time a member of my family stayed here. It might be, a bit, untidy." Cole furrows his eyebrows. I shake my head and just walk inside the house.
My breath is taken away. Damn Cole and his rich family. I feel the same as I did walking into the packhouse that very first day. "Amazing." I laugh. Cole smiles at my happy expression. "Make yourself at home Dani, I imagine we might be here for a while." I frown. "Don't you have a duty at home?" Cole walks closer to me and grabs my hand. "When I return home, I will return with my Luna by my side." My hands shake. "Cole I'm fine around you, human you, I'm not ready for wolves." Cole pulls me in for a hug. "Dani I can wait 100 years for you." I sigh and pull away. "That's just it Cole, you shouldn't have to wait!"
Cole's jaw sets just like it does before he gets mad, "What do you not understand about mates Dani! I need you and I'm sure as hell not going anywhere without you! I have suffered without you for many months and I'm not doing it again!" Cole shouts. I flinch. I don't like loud voices. A tear rolls down my cheek. Cole sees this and his face softens.
"I think it will be best if we sleep in separate rooms tonight." Cole's face falls. I have to look away in order to stay strong. One look at Cole's heartbroken face and I know I would be throwing myself into his arms.
I turn and walk up the stairs. Away from Cole and to the room that I will be staying in. It isn't long after I close my door that the crashes sound. Cole is throwing things. I fall asleep that night to the sounds of Cole expressing his rage. Rage that I created.
I wake up panting. A nightmare. I quickly get out of bed and head downstairs to the kitchen to fetch some water. After how well I slept the night before I thought the nightmares would be over. But no, he will always haunt me.
The living room is trashed. Broken glass, up turned furniture, ripped pillows. Cole is sitting down on the floor facing out towards the window. He senses me here. Without turning he starts to speak. "We were doing so good Dani. You are talking, laughing, making jokes with me. We shared a bed, you let me hold you. Somehow I managed to fuck things up again. Cole laughs, I guess a little bit of my father will always be inside me." I move to put my hand on Cole's shoulder. "We will get through this." Cole turns his gaze to me. "Will we Dani?" I nod, "I have faith in us."
"Be honest Dani, are you scared of me?" I shake my shake my head. "You, no, werewolves, yes." Cole pulls me down onto his lap. "Why?"
"When I was 12 I had a friend. He and his brother were the only people who made me happy during those dark years in my life. One day we were playing outside when," I take a deep breath, "a wolf killed him. Ripped him limb for limb apart right in front of me. I wanted to scream, call for help, but not a sound would come out. I ran. And since that day, I've never stepped foot in the woods. Also have never seen a wolf since. Until I saw you shift." Cole kisses my forehead before standing up and pulling me with him. He grabs my hand and leads me outside. He keeps his eyes locked with mine the whole time. He slowly removes his shirt and pants, leaving his boxers on.
Then he shifts. I'm not scared, shocked is more of the word. Cole is tall, almost as tall as me. He is pure black despite his blonde hair. But what shocks me most are his eyes. In human form Cole's eyes are a honey brown that I can stare at for hours. But in wolf form they are even more intriguing. Believe it or not they are a striking purple; the sign of royal blood.
Cole whines then takes a hesitant step forward. I allow him too. I reach out and gently stroke his fur. My god it is soft. Softer than anything else I've ever felt. Cole purrs deeply as I start to scratch behind his ears. I lean down and lightly kiss his muzzle. The moment feels intimate, even though it is nothing but innocent.
I turn around when I hear the sound of bones cracking. It isn't until I feel a hand on my back that I know Cole is dressed. "Do you trust my wolf?" Cole breathes huskily in my ear making me shudder. I turn around and put my hand on his chest. "I trust you, all of you."
Cole begins kissing my neck leaving a scorching hot trail of desire from the bottom of my ear to what he calls my sweet spot. He smirks against my neck when I gasp in pleasure. "Upstairs?" He questions lightly while continuing his assault on my body. I nod unable to refuse his husky lust filled voice.
Without missing a beat, Cole scoops me up into his arms and is racing into the country home and up the stairs to our bedroom. Laying me down on the bed he hovers over me and this time latches his lips onto my own. "Tomorrow, we explore the town. Tonight, we explore each other." I moan at his statement and for the second time in our lives allow myself and the man I love to be joined as one.
