Chapter 34

     Louise slowly turned the knob on the door.

     "Ako muna," said Rachel. She wanted to see him so bad. Louise nodded and gestured her mom to go.

     When Rachel stepped inside his room, she was torn. Somewhat relieved because he's stable yet also uneasy because of what she's seeing. Though Richard is in a private room already, there are still wires and and IV port connected to him. She was never used to seeing him this way, ever.

Flashback...

Richard was supposed to meet her at their usual spot but it's been almost an hour so she just decided to to home. Luckily, one of her friends left school late. When she was at the doorstep of her house, her phone rang. It was her bestfriend's manliligaw, Aga.

"Hello, Rachel?"

"Oh, Ags, napatawag ka?"

"Oo e. Nandito kasi ako sa hospital ngayon. Alam kong baka masuntol ako nitong boyfriend mo bukas dahil sa sasabihin ko sayo pero bahala na."

She spun herself around, facing the gate instead. "Bakit, anong nangyari kay Richard?"

"Kanina sa practice niya sa Track & Field, nagbiro. Alam mo namang hindi naghuhurdles 'to, 'di ba? E 'yun, patry-try pa kasi siyang nalalaman e. Pagtalon niya, sumabit 'yung left foot niya tapos dirediretso siya sa gym floor."

Rachel had her middle finger and thumb on her temples, "So what happened? What did the doctors say?"

"They said pahinga daw muna 'yung leg niya. Sabi nga nung doctor magcrutches daw siya, kahit isa lang, just to help him walk pero ang tigas talaga ng ulo ng boyfriend mo! 'Di ko nga alam paano ko naging bestfriend 'to, e."

"Loko. Sige, please wait 'til I arrive before you leave. 'Wag mong iwan 'yan. You know he's gonna try to go get out of there as quick as possible."

"Okay. Ingat ka sa daan. Paki bilis, a? Pupunta pa 'ko sa bestfriend mo!"

"Oo na. I'm about to leave."

"Okay."

Call ended.

She opened the door and saw her mom, "Ma, I'll be back. Pupuntahan ko lang po si Richard. He's in the hospital."

"Okay, magiingat ka. Tell me about it later. I hope he's okay."

"Thanks, Ma." She hurriedly walked to her car and drove off.

     When she arrived at the hospital, she headed straight to the front desk. "Uhm, excuse me, room ni Richard Gomez?"

"Ma'am, he's in room 208 po."

     "Salamat."

     She was about to open the door to his room when Aga came out, "Oh, Rach, buti nandito ka na. Okay na naman siya, may benda nga lang. Pwede na siyang idischarge tomorrow. Pasok ka na, I'll be back. Nagpapakuha ng water, e."

     "Ah, sige, ako na lang kukuha. Thank you, a?" Rachel said.

     "No problem. 'Yan pa? O sige. Bibili lang ako ng coffee sa baba."
