Chapter 22: Unknown Happenings

It was a very starry evening. Richard and Rachel were having a talk in the veranda along with a bottle of Shiraz.

"So.. how was New York?" Richard asked. He had to. The only connection he had with Rachel alone at that time was social media, grateful that he wasn't blocked from any.

"Ayun, masaya na malungkot. Come to think of it now, 'di ko nga alam kung paano ako nakahanap ng trabaho du'n eh. It was hard, " Rachel said and took a sip of her wine.

"Pero diba nandu'n naman si Lea durinh that time?"

"'Yun na nga eh. I knew Lea was there but I didn't want to depend everything on her. He had Andrew tagged along with her also, remember?"

"Oo nga pala. How was the kids there?"

She smirked, "Actually, malaki ang pasasalamat ko diyan sa dalawang 'yan. You won't believe what happened."

"Pwede bang malaman?" No one talked, "Pero kung 'di pa comfortable na pagusa--"

"If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here. I would've given up a two years ago."

Flashback...
     It was their third day in New York but Rachel has been weeping. She barely comes out of her room. After they got to New York, she just broke down. She couldn't manage to keep it in, she had to let it out at some point. Luckily it was summer, Louise has been taking care her. She brings up food for her mom, which she barely touches. But one day, she almost made the biggest mistake of her life.

     Rachel felt worthless. Just like what they say, it's very painful to lose your partner in life. She felt as if she didn't belong to the world no more. An evil thought went in her head, what she thought could end all of this pain. She went to the bathroom, not locking the door, and took a piece of blade out of the medicine cabinet.

     "Paul, wait lang ah. Check ko lang si Mama," Louise went up to her Mom's room and knocked, even though she knew it was open. Usually she'd get a faint answer but now, there was no answer at all. She went inside and found her nowhere. Thoughts went into her mind, good and bad. Louise rushed to the bathroom, the sight she saw made her panic. Her mom was holding a blade, about to cut her herself. "Mama!"

     Rachel looked up. Louise ran to her, took the blade out of her hand, and hugged her while trying to hold her tears,"Ma, anong ginagawa mo? "

     Rachel was just crying, "Pagod na pagod na 'ko, Anak. Pakiramdam ko wala ng akong silbi sa mundo. It seems like I have no reason to live. Ang sakit sakit. Sobrang sakit, hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko."

     Louise helped her stand up and led her to her bed. She knelt beside her and cupped her mothers's face, "Mama, listen to me. Okay? Just because hindi natin kasama si Papa, doesn't mean we give up. Life goes on, with or without him. And yung sinasabi mong you have no reason to live? You do, Ma! Andito kami ni Paul, kailangan ka din namin. Ma, hindi ko na alam ang gagawin ko or namin kapag nawala ka. Your our mom, we need you! Then you said walang kang silbi sa mundo? Mama madami. Kahit naman anong mangyari hindi ka namin papabayaan, we will never leave you. Kung si Papa kaya kang iwan, kami hindi. Follow your heart, Ma. Alam kong sinasabi mg puso mo to keep pushing through but your mind is telling you to give up. When you feel like giving up, think about me and Paul. If Paul and I isn't a better reason to make you move forward and be excellent, I don't know what will."
