"So how was your trip to Atlanta?" I took a deep breath, picking around my plate. "Straight."
"You didn't call me that much when you were up there, believe it or not, Bria kept asking about you."
"Oh." I mumbled.
"Did you like the campus?" I shrugged, keeping my eyes down in my plate. "It was cool."
"Well what did you see? I wanna know some details boy." I sighed. "Ain't nothin really to tell mama."
She sucked her teeth. "Im sure you have something to tell me, you went all they way to another state and you don't have nothing to say about it?"
"Nope."
She sighed. "Well how did Aliyah like her school? Did she tell you about it?"
I scratched the back of my head, still looking down in my plate. "Nah, not really."
"She didn't? Or were you not listening when she did?" I sighed. "She ain't tell me nothin about her school mama."
"Okay, well how close are y'all's campuses?" I sighed a little. "Like 20 minutes away."
"That's not bad." She started. "I feel a little better knowing Aliyah will be in Atlanta with you, atleast I know they'll be a positive person there to keep a eye on you." She chuckled a little.
"Yeah." I mumbled again.
"And I know y'all both are 18, and legally grown, but I don't need nobody making me a grandma right now, so please make sure y'all are using pr-"
"Mama." I groaned, cutting her off.
"What?? Im no fool Marcus, I caught you once doing it in my house years ago, and Im sure y'all are doing it, or going to do it, and I can't stop you, especially once you're away from home, so just make sure you're protecting yourself."
I sighed, leaning back into my seat. "Look, you don't even gotta be given me this unecessary speech right now, cause it ain't happenin."
Both of her brows shot up. "Oh...are you two waiting are something?"
I sucked my teeth, not even wanting to have this type of conversation, or any conversation with her right now. "Nah, were not together, so you don't gotta be givin me this speech about protection when Im not having sex with her, and I won't be."
She was silent for a second. "You two broke up? When?"
"It ain't even important."
She frowned. "It is important, when did this happen Marcus?"
"I don't know, a few days ago."
"And she broke up with you?" I scrunced up my face, looking up at her. "Nah, I broke up with her."
"Why?" She said in a confused tone. "What's been going on?"
"Nothin mama....damn." I said, mumbiling the last part. "Watch your mouth, I don't know who you're cursing at, but it damn sure ain't me."
"Sorry." I said lowly.
"I don't know what's been going on with you, but none of the stuff you've been doing lately is adding up, first you got caught up with that Cordarius boy, after I told you to stay away from him, you've been in a bad mood for days on end, giving me and you're sister uneeeded attitude, and Im tired of it, what's going on with you???"
"Nothin."
"I understand you're upset about Will, but you-"
"I said Im fine mama, chill out, you always tryna give these long ass speeches when it's not even that deep."
