Chapter 29

The two that were collecting peoples possessions and were slowly reaching where we were. I began to panic.

What if they recognised me?

Would they give up trying to rob this place and take me for ransom? Luke tensed beside me clearly coming to the same realisation.

"Elise, hug me." He ordered.

I looked at him with a puzzled expression not understanding what he was asking. "Why?" I asked.

"Pretend you're scared and hide your face." He said pushing my face against his chest and wrapping his arms tightly around me.

One of the beefy men came up to ask, extending a clear plastic bag full of phones, watches and wallets.

"Give me everything you have." He ordered.

We obliged and put our things in the bag. To our relief, the man moved onto the next group of people. When the two were done collecting peoples possessions they nodded towards the others taking the money in the register.

Suddenly, loud sirens could be heard making their way towards the store. The men began to freak out, asking the female barista if there was a back door.

Within a minutes, all four men ran in the direction the barista pointed at taking her with them.

"We have to go now." Lucas told Sarah and I in a firm voice. "Elise, you cannot get caught here. If the police come in there is no way you can leave without giving a full statement and your ID."

We nodded, the three of us slowly began to crawl towards the back exit, hoping nobody would spot us as we made our way out.

"Oh my gosh! How were you two so calm!" Sarah asked with a shaky voice when we made it safely to the car.

"Elise is like a magnet that attracts danger. You honestly get used to it after a while." Luke answered casually with a shrug.

"You guys are weird." Sarah stated as she rubbed her shoulders.

"Aw, you ok?" I asked reaching over and giving her a hug just as Luke started the car.

Sarah shrugged just as the cops pulled up to the Coffee shop.

"We better get out of here." Luke said as he pulled out of the parking space and began to drive off.

"Where are we going?" Sarah asked.

"To the palace." Luke stated as he raised the volume of the radio, ending any possible conversation we could have had.

We arrived at the palace in under 30 minutes due to Luke's crazy speeding. He ordered us to get out and sneak into my room while he parked the car and talked to Menzies.

Sarah and I obeyed and managed to sneak up to my room unseen, bolting my rooms door behind us.

Sarah walked over to my bed, sitting down on the edge of it with a deep exhale of air.

"You ok?"I asked her.

"I'm kind of freaked out to be honest. We got lucky."

I walked over and sat next to her not knowing what to say. I had been through things like this plenty of times. I had grown used to the initial shock and my body would respond faster in situations like this than Sarah had. I knew I couldn't exactly tell her she'd get used to it. That might have freaked her out more than comforting her.

"Well, we're ok now." I said as I pulled her into a hug.

"You two were so calm. Why couldn't I have been like that?"

"Well, it's your first time in a situation like that, Sarah. Luke has been trained for this kind of stuff. It's why my dad hired him..."

"But it wasn't just him, Elle! You as well. You were both so calm and you both reacted in the right way. I was like a little kid!" she said as she pulled away and stared at me.

"Sarah are you serious. How many times have I been the one crying to you while you were protective, while you reacted quickly and while you knew what to do. You don't have to be the tough guy all the time. This was a serious thing. It wasn't something little and besides everyone was freaking out. It wasn't just you. Didn't you see all the other people there?"

"I saw you guys, and you were calm as."

"Sarah, you're calm so much more than I am every other time. you're training to be surgeon! I could never do that! Don't worry about this!" I said just as there was a knock on the door.

"Guys, open up." Luke said.

We got off the bed and opened the door.

"Sarah, I'm taking you home, get your things."

"Excuse me?" I asked Luke "why is she going home?"

"Menzies said Sarah needs to go."

"And I said she stays." I crossed my arms across my chest not wanting Sarah to leave just yet.

"Elise, she has to go." Luke said as he nodded, not backing down.

I glared at him just as Sarah answered, "it's ok, Elle. I'll leave."
