Picture of Amberley to to the side.

Chapter 8

I watched wide eyed, blinking repeatedly. It seemed as though time had slowed down as I watched Walter's fit collided smack bang in the corner of Amberley's mouth. A disgusting crunch filled the room –whether it was from Walter or Amberley I didn't know- followed by a pain filled scream mixed with a grunt.
My face scrunched up in disgust and I turned my head away, not wanting to look at all the crimson blood gushing out of her mouth and down her chin and neck.
I closed my eyes both disgusted and in pain from the beating I'd just received from Amberley although I knew she was feeling worse...
I closed my eyes shut tighter still hearing Walter beat her, yet I couldn't find it in me to tell him to stop. I knew it was bad. I knew I shouldn't have been thinking what I had been, it was heartless and disgusting, yet I kind of wanted him to make her feel pain like she had done with me.
It gave me a sense of joy-as revolting as that sounded- to finally feel what I had felt less than five minutes ago. As well as a sense of...glee... that Walter had finally stuck up for me and done his job of protecting me and keeping me safe...
...Even if he was a little late.
My whole face was stinging as my salty tears dripped down my small cuts, making them hurt even more than they already did.
I winced as fingers softly brushed along my wrist untying the coil of rope and it was then that I realized that Walter had stopped punching Amberley. I opened my eyes hesitatingly, bracing myself for the worst. My eyes roamed around the room before spotting an unconscious Amberley lying on the floor. Her lips split, nose crooked, blood covered her jaw, nose, and neck, dripping down into her hair and onto her clothes.
I twisted around trying to face Walter when all of a sudden my vision blurred and everything around me started to spin. My eyes rolled in their sockets and I fought with consciousness, struggling to stay awake while my body fought against me.
When each coil of rope was untied and pulled away from my body, I immediately collapsed to my side. My shoulder collided roughly with the dirty concrete floor making me groan in pain as Walter rushed to my side apologizing as he lifted me up in a sitting position, resting my back against the pillar I was previously tied to as the aching all over my body intensified.
"Come on, let's get you out of here." Walter whispered softly as he lifted me in his arms.
My eyes fluttered closed as I groaned in pain at the sudden change of body position.
He brushed a few loose strands out of my face. "Try not to sleep until I take you to a Doctor. I don't know if you have a concussion, ok? Stay awake for me." He urged, gently brushing his thumb along the side of my face.
"It hurts." I whined, tears leaking down my cheeks with each strained breath.
"Where?" He asked as we walked up the stairs.
"Everything," I cried "My r-ribs, my face, it all d-does." I said in between sobs.
"It'll be ok. Try not to think about it." He said calmly as we walked into the garage of the house and he unlocked the car door with one hand while I wrapped my arms around his neck to prevent me from falling to the ground.
Once the door was opened he lowered me softly into the backseat before quickly stepping into the driver's side and starting the car, turning the music up extremely loudly to a station playing a horrible rap song.
"Walter please..." I groaned as the fast paced singing all but made my ear drums bleed.
"No. This way you won't sleep so you better stay awake!" He said sternly, pulling out of the garage and speeding away towards who knew where.
"Where are we going?" I asked trying to raise my voice higher than the music as my whole body and now head throbbed in pain.
"What?" He shouted back, not being able to hear what I had asked.
I repeated my question but the same thing happened. On the third try he finally turned the volume down on the radio.
"Thank you. Where are we going?"
"Hospital" He answered bluntly, zooming past cactuses and rocks on the side of the dirt road.
I groaned in response as we drove over a big rock making the whole car rock.
"Sorry, Princess!" He shouted as he drove faster.
My eyes drooped and rolled backwards as I fought to stay awake.
"Princess, you better not be sleeping!" He warned, reaching a hand back and rubbing my hip softly, shaking me ever so slightly. "Stay awake."
My head drooped to the side as unconsciousness started to overcome me, and I lost all energy to fight it.
So what if I had a concussion, at least I could sleep, and when I woke up I'd be in hospital with doctors and nurses to look after me, right?
The car came to a stop and I felt Walter's hand return to my hip as he slowly turned me so I was lying on my back, before he lifted one of my eyelid up.
"Stay awake, Elise!" He shouted near my ear, it normally would have made me jump, but I had no energy in me to even respond to his shout in any way as my eyes closed again and blackness clouded around me.
