Part 26

Connie came out of theatre three hours later and walked straight down the corridor to Jacob.
"Is she ok?!" He asked frantically whilst attempting to calm Noah who had been screaming for the past twenty minutes.
"The surgery went well, they are bringing her back over to NICU now" Connie replied as she took Noah from his arms.
"Thank you" Jacob said sincerely as he wrapped his arms around her waist.
She smiled, "just doing my job, now I need to go and feed Noah" she told him.
"Ok baby" he said before kissing the top of her head gently.
"I'll be in my office if you need me" Connie said before wandering off down the corridor.

Jacob went back to NICU as the porter and Mr T brought Maya back in there.
"Connie said everything went well?" he asked.
"Yes, but it wasn't at all down to me. It was all her, she saved her life" Mr T told him as Victoria and Derek walked in from getting a coffee.
"Is she ok?" Victoria asked.
Jacob nodded, "can you stay with her a while? I need to go and see Connie" he said.
"Jacob you need to stay with your little girl" Victoria said.
"No mum, I need to tell the woman who saved her life how much I love her" he replied before walking out.

He went straight to Connie's office where she was curled up under a blanket on her couch feeding Noah.
"Jacob shouldn't you be with Maya?" she asked as she looked up at him.
"My parents are with her. I wanted to be with you" he said as he sat down next to her.
Connie smiled and snuggled up to him, "I'm really proud of you Jacob, you've been so strong for your little girl" she said.
Jacob smiled and held her and Noah close, "I couldn't be this strong without you. And I know I said it before but again, thank you. Mr T told me it was all you, you saved my baby's life. I know you say it's your job, but you did it amazingly" he told her.

"I really love you" Connie replied.
"I really love you too sweetcheeks" Jacob said.
Connie smiled up at him then he kissed her lips gently.
She carried on feeding Noah until he fell back to sleep then she adjusted her top.
"Let's go back to Maya" she said.
"Baby go home, seriously. It's 5am, you need to sleep" Jacob replied.
"I spoke to Mr T earlier, he's going to give Maya her own private room, and us a bed in there with a cot for Noah. Perks of being a scary clinical lead" Connie said.
"Thank you baby" he said.

Jacob carried Noah and held Connie's hand as they walked back up to NICU.
Maya had been moved to her side room, with a bed and cot put in there.
"We'll get off now, I'll call some time later and see how she's getting on but call us if there's any changes ok?" Derek said.
"Course dad, thanks for coming, I'll see you soon" Jacob replied.
His parents said their goodbyes then left, Jacob put Noah down in the cot then he and Connie laid down on the bed together.
He held her close as she rested her head on his chest and looked up at him.

Jacob smiled and pressed his lips to hers, parting her lips with his tounge which he swept around her mouth.
Connie linked her arms around his neck as they kissed passionalty.
Of course it couldn't let it go any further, especially in there, but they savoured the moment until they needed to pull apart for air.
"I needed that" Jacob whispered in her ear.
"Me too" she smiled at him.
He smiled and held her close whilst stroking her hair.
"Night baby" he said softly.
"Night muscles" Connie replied as she closed her eyes.
