A Reason To Live

The next morning, I woke up to my phone ringing around 10 a.m. I looked to see who was calling me, my boss.

"H-hello?"

"Where are you?!" he screamed.

"At home. It's my day off remember?" I started to doubt myself.

"Yeah, well you need to get your ass over here because my daughter needs to go shopping for me." His daughter was another employee here, Chrissy. She was a daddy's girl. Anything Chrissy wanted, Chrissy got it. She was also a backstabbing employee. People had to be careful around her because if you said one thing out of line, you're looking for a new job.

"Can't you call in someone else to go over . . ?" I was holding my head up in the palm of my hand. I didn't want to go over there again. I really hated that place.

"Are you coming or not?! Because if not you might as well look for a new place to work." He hung up abruptly and left me to my own thoughts. I needed the money for the concert. But should I put up with his bullshit? I slowly got dressed into some blue jeans and a red lace top with a white spaghetti strap underneath. I skipped breakfast and headed out.

I drove slowly and pulled into the parking lot. Sitting in my car I put on some mascara and eyeliner and checked my hair. My reddish brown hair seemed flat and had no life to it. My hazel eyes seemed dead. Why should a 23 year old be afraid of life? I held back tears before any memories came back. Quickly walking into the building, I took a deep breath. I grabbed my apron, a towel, and the spray after checking in. While cleaning I heard the bell of someone walking in.

"Hello welcome to-" I stopped short because I couldn't believe who I was looking at.

"Hey!" Jaime said with a smile. Vic, Mike, and Tony followed with the same.

"H-hi. H-how many?" I couldnt stop stuttering. I just couldn't believe I was looking right at Pierce The Veil! I remembered that lots of bands appreciate people treating them like normal people so I had to remind myself not to hyperventilate and pass out.

"Deep breaths, deep breaths", I thought to myself as I walked them over to a booth and handed them their menus. I was lucky enough to belt out the specials we had going and asking them what they would like to drink without choking on a lack of air.

"Four coffees would be great." Vic smiled. I swear I had a mini heart attack. I smiled back and went to get them their coffee. I returned with their coffees and couldnt help but blush. I asked them for their order. They agreed on sharing a large pepperoni pizza. After submitting their order to the cook, I continued to clean tables.

I heard somebody approaching me. I turned in time to see my boss handing me a broom.

"Sweep." He said and walked away without any further words. Confused, i began to sweep. After sweeping the whole restaurant in the back away from everyone who was eating, I washed my hands. Finally the pizza the guys ordered was ready.

"One large pepperoni pizza!" I placed the pizza on the table and left them to eat.

"Excuse me," Tony spoke up. "Could we get some soda?" I smiled and said sure. After filling a pitcher with coke I turned around. Right into my boss. All I could see was the soda drenching his shirt and dripping on the ground. I looked up to see his face red like a tomato.

"I-I'm so sorry! I didn't know you were there! Here let me-". I sighed and grabbed a towel to try and clean up

"Do. Not. Touch. Me." My boss glared at me. "Get out. And never come back." My eyes started to tear up.

"But. But I didn't mean to! I didn't know you were there! I said I'm sorry!" Tears fell down my face and I started to get angry. Suddenly, I was pissed. I yelled at him. I told him everything I felt about this place. How I felt about him, how I felt about Chrissy. When I was done I was gasping for air. I felt like I had just run a mile. I looked over to see the guys looking at us in shock, just like everyone else who was eating here. Wiping the tears off my face, I got up and started to walk over to the door.

"She shouldn't be fired." I heard Mike speak up.

Vic agreed. "She didn't do anything wrong."

"You snuck up on her. I saw you." Jaime looked over at me.

"Guys... It's okay. Don't worry about it." I slowly made my way out the door. Finally in my car, I let it all go. I cried for what felt like hours. Tears streamed down my face like waterfalls. I hit my steering wheel with my fists. Why me! Of course I get embarrassed in front of the people who saved my life. What the hell! I cried some more. I heard someone softly tap my window. I looked up to see Vic looking at me with a worried expression. I rolled down my window and wiped my eyes.

"Yes?" I asked weakly.

"Umm, well. After seeing what happened back there... The guys and I thought... Maybe you'd like to help us sell merch at our concert tomorrow? We'll definitely pay you more than that guy would ever think of paying-" His voice faded out. I couldn't hear him speak. I watched his mouth move, thinking about how one of my idols just asked me to help sell their merch at a concert!

"Is that a yes?" Vic's voice came back clear.

"Y-yes!" I answered excitedly.

"Great," Vic smiled. "Here's my number." He handed me a small slip of paper and smiled one last time before walking back to their bus. I closed my window and drove home with the biggest smile on my face.
