Chapter 23 - She's Mine

Evie's POV
The expression on Mal's face told me everything I need to know.
"So you like it Mal?" I asked and her eyes lit up even more.
"E, are you kidding? Like doesn't even start to describe it!" she said looking around at the abandoned castle I had recently found. I took her hand.
"Wanna see the inside?" I asked and she nodded enthusiastically. I led her into the castle to where there was a dragon statue, it looked kinda like Mal's dragon, but a bit larger.
"Evie, when did you have time to find this place?" she asked me looking around.
"Well, whenever I needed space or somewhere to think I usually wondered around the woods.. One day I found this place. Unfortunately Doug knows it's here an-" I got cut off.
"And this was supposed to be our secret, Evie." Doug said from behind me. Mal was off to my side I looked at her worriedily but she was starting at Doug bitterly.

Mal's POV
"Doug, just leave" I said sharply. He was walking towards Evie. My defensive instincts kicked in a little.
"Doug I said back off!" I growled angerly, I felt my dragon get angry.. Her name was Melanie, odd enough. 'Mel, stand down..' I said to her but she refused. 'Mal he is being a jerk to Evie..' she whimpered. But I kept her from taking over. Melanie was secretly my dragon, whenever she was human, she had full control of everything. Same with is she is her dragon.
"You're not my mother, Mal." he said. Mel was enraged. I couldn't let her take over though. Doug stepped closer t ok Evie, she fell backwards and he pushed her into the wall.
"Evie is mine, Mal. Not yours!" he said and laughed. Evie looked at me desperately. Now, its Melanie's turn.

Melanie's POV
Finally Mal let me take the lead. I instantly turned into a dragon.
"Doug, she is not yours!" I growled, Evie smiled at me which made me happy. "She is mine!" I said and pushed him away from her with mg tail.
I stepped between them and looked down at Evie. I bent down a little and she touched my snout.
"Thanks, M." she said in a soft voice. I picked her up and looked back at Doug.
"Give her back you giant lizard!" he shouted at me. I rolled my eyes and breathed out smoke at him. He coughed uncontrollably but I moved Evie so she wouldnt be effected by the smoke.
"Ready to head home?" Evie asked and I nodded, then I opened my wings and flew out of the giant hole in the roof. Evie seemed to enjoy riding my dragon. I smiled and flew back to Auradon.
