Chapter 29 - Some Love Stories Are NOT Pefect

Evie's POV
I sat nervously in tbe waiting room when I saw the doctor walking towards me. I took a deep breath and stood up.
"Evie I have some news..." He paused. This was not going to end well.

Earlier
I ran after Mal as fast as I could, it was harder because I was in heels.
"Mal stop! I need that!" I shouted chasing her. She had stolen my mirror and was sucessfully keeping it away from me. Mal ran into the woods, I still followed her. She suddenly turned and I realized where she was going, my hears started beating faster.
"MAL! STOP!" I said frantically, suddenly I saw Mal turn her head to look at me, but she slipped and fell down into the ravine that had appeared in an earthquake a few days earlier.
"MAL!" I screamed and ran over. She was holding on to a breaking tree brach. I felt myself go sick, I reached down to grab her hand, she grabbed my hand as soon as the branch broke. Unfortunately I was not strong enough to pull her up. I screamed as my stitches started to pull out.
"Evie, your back.. I can't put you through that pain.." Mal said and loosened her grip. Mine tightened.
"Mal stop. I am not letting you go. There is at least a 50 feet drop!" I said and felt tears in my eyes. I couldn't think of what to do. I felt my back getting warm from the now opened wound. The blood started to drip down my arm.
"Oh my god.. E, I am so sorry.. Just know, no matter what.. I love you." Mal said and pulled her glove off. This made me loose my grip on her hand. Everything felt like it was in slow motion, she fell from my grip and I tried to grab her hand, but I missed. I heard a loud thud as she hit the floor of the ravine and everything went silent.
"Mal?" I silently said, my voice was gone I was too scared. I slowly looked over the ledge and saw Mal's body laying limply on the bottom. I quickly backed up off the ledge and went behind a tree. I fwlt like I was gonna throw up, and I did. When I got out from behind the tree I sslowly pulled out my phone and diled 911.
"Hello?" I heard on the other end and quickly explained what happend. Next thing I knew they were pulling Mal's body out of the ravine and I was in the back of an ambulance.
"She has a feint pulse. Drive quickly." the paramedic looked at me.
"What is your mame." he asked and I shook my head not able to speak. He looked back at Mal and I blacked out. When i woke up, I was sitting in a hospital bed, my room was empty minus me. I lay there thinking about what happened. I saw Jan and FG walk in. The realized Ben was in the waiting room, probably for Mal.
"Hey Evie how are you?" Jane asked and I frowned.
"I-is she dead?" I asked feeling a knot form in the back of my throat and Jane shook her head.
"She is in critical condition.. No one is allowed to visit her.." Jane said and I tried to stand up. Jane helped me, I was fine besides passing out. I walked oer and sat next to Ben, and he wrapped his arms around me.
"I heard what happened Evie.. I know you tried.. Its not your fault." he said and I cried into his shoulder.
"Ben, I can't lose her."I said and he hugged me tighter.
"I know." he said. Ben had been with Audrey ever since I hooked up with Mal. But now we need to wait for the doctors news.

Present Time
"I have some bad news..." the doctor said sternly. Ben squeezed my hand, I prepared for the worst.
