"What's this meeting all about again?" Maine asked as she sipped from her milkshake. "Bakit kailangang may food? We never had meetings na maraming food..."

"We love you, that's why," Jade nervously responded. "Sige, kain ka lang bago dumating si Kim."

"Kayo ha, kinakabahan na tuloy ako," Maine said, reaching out for a pizza. 

Maine worked with Jade Lopez and Tristan Smith along with Kim Anderson. Tristan and Jade were her producers. Maine writes her songs with her best friend, Jacob, that's why the team she worked with was still small. She didn't have her own glam team because she was still not known to a lot of people.

Yes, she gets a gig here and there and gets paid not even half the amount of Angel Tuazon earns for singing one song, but she was grateful. She was releasing her own music next year; that was everything for her. 

She has had a couple of television appearances but not quite as many to call her semi-famous yet. But she's getting there. And besides, being famous wasn't her goal; sharing the music she makes with her best friend was.

Maine grew up from a big family. When she was younger, she thought she had everything any girl could ask for. They never had problems with money. They didn't have much but it was enough to eat three meals a day and to send all five children to school. Maine thought her family was perfect, and that she had everything until three years ago. 

Three years ago was another story to tell. 

Soon enough, Kim arrived with a stack of folders and an exhausted face. 

"Good morning, everyone!" she exclaimed, despite the obvious lack of energy she carried. "Kumusta ang recording ng first song?"

Maine, Jade and Tristan told her different stories and jokes with enthusiasm. 

"Now, let's get this meeting started," Kim said after a few minutes. "Jade, may sinabi ka na ba kay Meng?"

Maine looked at Jade like she was asking if she knew. Jade nervously shook her head.

"Ano  ba 'yan, I thought you'd be giving me the easiest job today." Kim laughed. "Anyway, let's get started."

Maine nodded and sat properly. Suddenly, she was nervous.

"Have you ever had a boyfriend, Maine?"

Maine almost fell off her chair.

"Uy, I was just asking. Okay ka lang?" Maine nodded. "So, ano? Have you had a boyfriend?"

"I, uh, no. I've never had a boyfriend."

"Never?" Tristan gasped. "What about Jacob? You never dated him?"

Maine shook her head. "We've been best friends since we were seven. I don't think it's even remotely possible to look at Jacob beyond being best friends."

"But you're twenty-one, Meng!" Jade, who is equally shocked, exclaimed. "Have you ever been to a date at least?"

Maine shook her head once again, making the three gasp. "I haven't been in love."

"Totoo ba?" Kim asked. "Grabe, I know that you don't go around dating random guys because you are decent enough but this... I did not expect this."

"Well," Maine sighed. "Alam niyo naman po ang mga nangyari sa buhay ko for the past three years. I don't think I even had time to think for myself."

"Saan mo hinihugot yung mga love songs mo?" Jade asked.

"Jacob writes the songs with me, so the lyrics aren't entirely from me. And besides, I make up these feelings para kunwari may love life ako when I write."
