My Brother's Best Friend

Chapter 2

The first week of school as gone by in a blur and now it's friday, the day of the back to school party. I wake up and brush my teeth before going back in my room to get started on my hair and makeup. I plug in my straightener and let it warm up as I start my makeup. I do a light natural eye look with winged eyeliner and mascara before I straighten my hair. I go to my closet and take out an outfit for today. I decide on a white halter crop top, a pink cardigan, light wash high waisted shorts, ,and brown sandals. I go downstairs and see mom in the kitchen.

"Good morning honey" she says

"Morning" I say before kissing her cheek

I take out the orange juice and pour it in a glass cup and grab a granola bar for breakfast.

"How's Luke? I haven't seen him in a while" she says

"He's fine I guess" I say as I open my granola bar

"You guess?" she asks

"He's been busy so we haven't really seen each other outside of school" I say

"Oh I see" she says as she drinks her coffee "I have to work late tonight so don't wait up or go over Ashley's"

"Ok" I say finishing off my granola bar

I take my orange juice upstairs and grab my bag, making sure everything I need is in it. I go back downstairs and put my cup in the sink and kiss my mom goodbye. I get in my car and drive to Ashley's house. Once I get here she's already outside waiting. She gets in and puts her seatbelt on.

"So my mom has to work late tonight so we can get ready over my house" I say

"Ok good because my parents are home" she says

I turn the radio up as we drive while she gets on her phone. Once we park in the parking lot we get out and lock the doors. She goes to her locker while I go to the library to return a book I used for a research project. As I walk in the library very quietly I walk back towards the library office to give the book back. As I pass the rows of books I hear moaning and groaning.

"Luke" I hear the girl moan

I slowly and quietly walk to where I heard the moan at, with my heart racing. I come to the row and look down it and my heart sinks. Luke is there with Megan, one of my closest friends, having sex. I gasp and they both turn to see who it is. When they see me Luke looks shocked. I let a tear fall from my eye and wipe it away. All of the sudden everything makes sense. Why he was always late, why he made excuses to leave early, why I barely see him anymore.

"Beth" he says walking towards me

"Don't" I say backing up " How long has this been going on?"

"A month" Megan says

"A month?" I ask letting more tears fall

"Beth" he says again stepping towards me

"No. We're done" I say before turning around and walking away.

I push the bathroom door open and lock myself in a stall. I pull my legs up to my chest and let my tears fall. I stay here all first period and Ashley soon comes in.

"Beth?" Ashley calls into the bathroom

She comes in front of the stall I'm in and knocks on the door

"Can you let me in?" she asks

I reach up and unlock it. She comes in and sits next to me. She pulls me against her and lets me cry on her shoulder. Once my tears stop we sit there silently.

"He was cheating on me" I say quietly "With Megan" she stays silent and waits for me to continue "I saw them in the library together"

"Together? as in having sex?" she asks
