Quote of the Chapter:
'Don't let the heart that didn't love you keep you from the one that will.'I woke up on the floor to my brother knocking loudly at the door.
Knock. Knock. Knock
"Ally! Come on, open up! Mom and dad sent me to help you finish unpacking! Alex, don't make me knock down this door!"
I got up when I realized that Max acting stupid wasn't a dream.
"Okay, okay! Stop before you wake up the entire floor!" I opened the door. My brother looked at me with suspicion creeping up in his eyes about the events yesterday.
"So are you feeling any better?"
"What are you talking about? I feel fine. I just came back to my dorm and I saw -"
I stopped myself from saying anything else. I soon realized what a huge mistake I had just made.
"You saw who...?"
I started to breathe heavily so I tried to change the subject.
"What time is it?"
"It's 8:13"
I felt my insides twist and turn as I instantly entered a state of panic.
Realizing suddenly that I hadn't eaten in nearly 2 days, I sat down feeling faint. My brother brought me a glass of water and started to rub my back. My vision and hearing was blurred and he said something in which I couldn't tell. I heard the door shut softly. I drank my water slowly, while contemplating what I would do if I ever saw Michael again.
'Would I speak to him casually or like we had known each other for as long as we have?'
A hundred different thoughts and questions circled around in my already consumed brain.
'What would have happened if I had let him in? Why did he stay at the door for so long even though he knew I wasn't going to open it?'
All of these thoughts were soon interrupted by my doorknob slowly turning. A glint of excitement ran through my body when I thought it might have been him, which got replaced by disappointment of it once again being my brother bringing me food. The food smelled of lost hope and fryer grease. He brought me a freshly made hamburger and chili fries from the nearby cafeteria.
"Max, its literally 8:30 in the morning," I laughed.
"Well it's never too early for Chili fries!"
"Now are you going to tell me what really happened last night?"
"Nothing happened, suddenly I felt really sick on the way up, so I decided to stay and try to unpack some more stuff."
I hated lying to my brother, but if I told him the truth it would only make him worry more about me than he already does.
"Oh okay. That makes sense. You did have a long day."
I'm glad he didn't push me into explaining more, but I knew that he was still slightly suspicious.
"So did you guys go back to a hotel last night?"
"Yeah we did, and it sucked. It didn't even have room service."
I lightly laughed. My brother placed his hand on my knee before lifting himself off the bed. A few hours later I had already finished unpacking just before Danielle should arrive. My brother left a few hours ago to head back to Houston with my parents. Our goodbyes were quick and easy. Of course my mom began crying again, but I consoled her once again to calm her down. After I calmed her down, I hugged her once more but this time, while my head rested on her shoulder, my eyes opened to see 3 guys arguing over something I couldn't make out. Once I finally got rid of my parents for good, a feeling of freedom and independence washed over my body.
