"You can't leave. Where you gonna go?" I asked Shannie as I followed her from room to room.

"I told you I'm staying with my mom."

"So you really gonna leave? What about my daughter?"

"Don't worry about it." She rolled her eyes.

I looked at this bitch like she lost her mind.

"The fuck you mean 'don't worry about it'? I want to know what's going to happen to my daughter!"

She ignored me.

"I'll take your ass you court, Shannie."

"You can't do that." She said.

"Yes I can!" I shouted.

"No you can't!"

"Why can't I?"

"Because Aubria isn't even yours!" She yelled back, but her face turned frightened as soon as those words escaped her mouth.

Tara

I laid in bed enjoying the silence since Kai was with my dad for the day. My phone ringed and I answered it without bothering to look at the caller ID.

"You have a collect call from...August at Los Angeles county jail. Do you wish to accept the charges?"

I sighed, "Yes."

"Tara?" I heard August say through the phone.

"August, why are you in jail?" I asked.

"I'll explain later. Can you just come bail me out?"

"...I'll be there soon." I told him before hanging up the phone.

August walked up to me after claiming his things. His face was completely blank. There was no sign of emotion.

The charges were dropped, but it seem like he didn't care if they were or not.

"What happened?" I asked one we got in the car.

"I nearly choked Shannie unconscious." He replied nonchalantly.

My eyes widened in shock, "Why would you do that?"

"She told me Aubria wasn't mine."

"I'm sure she was just saying that to get under your skin." I lied, knowing I was lying through my teeth. That child looks nothing like him.

"No she wasn't. I took care after a child for two years while abandoning a child that really was mines. I'm dumb as hell."

"You got that right." I sat back in my seat.

"I don't need your smart mouth right now." He spat.

I shrugged, "Ask me if I care."

The truth hurts.

"You can't turn a hoe into a housewife." I chuckled to myself.

"You find this really amusing. Don't you see I'm hurt right now? I love that little girl and she isn't mine." He got out the car.
