Dan awoke the next morning and immediately grabbed his sketchbook. He scribbled down his dream into art, then closed the book and went to his wardrobe. The selection of clothes was colourless, but he selected his leather jeans and a black tee.
The bus ride to the school was near silent, and Dan couldn't help but frown. Looking through his sketchbook, he found the date that an entry had been ripped out. It had been from the first day of school.
"Shit..." Dan mumbled, closing the book. The bus came to a stop and Dan rose, flinging his bag over his shoulder before exiting the bus.
When he walked into the school, Phil was standing near the office, speaking with the attendants.
"What do you mean you can't help him remove it?" Phil asked, irritated. "What if he comes down here himself? No? Well, that's straight rubbish. Have a good day."
The boy turned to see Dan and grinned, running over and standing next to him.
"Trying to get my entry removed, I see," Dan sighed.
"I thought I'd try to help," Phil confessed.
The brown hair on Dan's head fell into place as he shook his head, "So, the dance..."
"Yeah! Oh, I'm so excited!" Phil laughed.
"No, Phil. Listen, I need you to know that that entry wasn't what I would've chosen to enter..." Dan whispered, pulling Phil close so that he could hear.
"Dan, I don't care what it was," Phil replied, smiling. "You won, you should enjoy it."
Dan continued to push his words, "The prize was two hundred pounds to spend on dinner for the both of us. Before the dance. You need to know what happened with it-"
"Nope, don't tell me. I won't let you," Phil stammered, plugging his ears.
"Phil, c'mon," Dan persisted.
"Dan, no," Phil argued.
Rolling his eyes, Dan looked over, "I don't want you to hate me, Phil."
"Why would I?" Phil asked.
"Well, you see... I'm-"
A girl came out of no where, running into Dan's shoulder. Dan scowled a bit, losing his train of thought.
"You're?" Phil asked.
"What? I can't remember what I was saying... Oh well, I'll remember," Dan said, pinching Phil's sleeve and dragging him off to class.
After school, the two went to Phil's house. In Phil's room, Dan didn't say much.
"Dan?" Phil asked.
"Hmm?" Dan hummed.
"Why haven't you touched your sketchbook?"
Dan shrugged, texting, "Well, I can't think straight right now."
"Why not?" Phil asked.
