Phil stood up, "So, I was thinking about the dance."

Dan raised a brow, "What about it?"

"Well," Phil said, "I was wondering who you thought I should ask."

"Why would you ask me?" Dan asked, frowning. "I don't know anything about asking people to dances. They ask me if they want to go."

"Oh. I don't know. I just thought you might," Phil admitted

Dan shrugged, "Why?"

"I don't know, you're good looking and I figured you'd have luck with dances," Phil stammered. "That's all."

"Oh," Dan blushed. He went back to drawing away.

Phil sighed, "You know there's an art contest, and it's really gonna be great. You should-"

"No. No, no, no," Dan blurted. His face was bright red.

"But Dan... What if you win?" Phil asked.

"I won't. I won't do it," He refused.

The boy sighed again, watching his new friend sketch. Dan's forehead was creased in thought, eyes concentrated on the page.

"Dan, you can't simply ignore the fact that you have talent," Phil scolded.

"Alright. One, you don't know what my drawings look like. Two, I don't want anyone seeing them. Three, we've been friends for just minutes and you're scolding me? What the hell do you think this is, Phil?" Dan snapped.

Phil swallowed, "I'm s-"

"Don't apologize," Dan commanded rubbing his face. "I'm sorry, I'm just tired and stressed out."

"It's getting late," Phil said, changing the subject.

"Damn, it is..." Dan muttered. He opened the blinds as he raised from his spot on the bed. "It's dark."

A knock came from Phil's door and his mum peeked in, "Phil, it's late. Does your friend just want to stay over?"

Phil looked at Dan. He was squirming uncomfortably, but shrugged.

"I guess," Phil said. "Call your mum, Dan?"

Dan nodded, dialing his mum, "Can I stay over? I'll be at school. Okay. No problem. I love you, Mum. Bye."

Phil nodded and his mum went back down stairs. Dan sat back down and shook his head, laying his head in his hands.

"You okay?" Phil asked.

"I don't know," Dan muttered.

"Why not?" Phil asked, sitting next to him.

"I just... Nevermind."

"No, no. Dan, what's wrong?" Phil asked.

Dan sighed, "You wouldn't understand yet." Phil put a hand on his shoulder. Dan jumped a bit at his touch, then looked up at Phil. "Why are you so nice to me?"

"Because, you need a friend. I'm here for you, and I need you to trust me," Phil chuckled.

Dan's eyes began to water and he looked away, "Thanks, Phil."

Dan grabbed his sketchbook from behind him and Phil leaned back on his hands. For a few seconds, their hands touched. Dan turned a deep red, looking up at a red-faced Phil.

"Um..." Phil hummed.

"Right, so, do you have any pyjamas for me to borrow?" Dan asked, avoiding eye contact.
