Dan patted Phil's back before letting go of him. The redness had mostly left him, and he was ready to face the school. Looking to Phil for support, he frowned.

Phil pinched his sleeve and smiled lightly, walking with him out of the restroom. He dropped his grip on Dan and put his hands in his pockets.

Dan stepped in front of Phil and kept his head low. The principal walked over and held the school microphone to Dan.

"Dan, what have you to say about this picture?" He asked.

Dan glanced back at Phil who shook his head nervously, "Well, I drew it of a good friend. He's my best friend, in fact." He was mumbling, almost inaudible.

Not quite sure what Dan had said, the principal smiled, "Anyways... To Dan Howell!"

The school applauded and everyone had to go home as the floors were soaked. Dan followed Phil onto the bus, going home with him.

"Hey, Dan?" Phil asked.

Dan looked over, "Yeah, Phil?"

"What did you mean by that?"

"What did I mean by what, Phil?"

"Dan, I don't know if you meant as friends or..." Phil trailed off, turning red.

Dan put a hand on Phil's and nodded, "As friends..." He winked and fumbled with Phil's fingers.

The black-haired boy smiled and closed his eyes, "It's actually happening."

Dan nodded and closed his eyes, and by the time he opened them he was following Phil off of the bus. Phil took his hand away and waited for Dan to get off before starting to walk towards his house.

Dan smiled and jogged off the bus, grabbing Phil's hand and dragging him all the way. The two of them chatted the whole way there, smiling and laughing. At Phil's door, he took his hand away again and opened the door, signalling Dan to follow him in.

Once upstairs and in his room, they sat down on the bed and pulled out physics homework.

"Only a few days until the dance," Dan mumbled.

"Yeah," Phil said quietly.

"So, I never asked. You like me, too, right? This isn't one-sided?" Dan asked.

"Yes, Dan," Phil said, glancing at the other boy, "You're right. I do like you."

"Also, I just think it's fair that you know

"Also, I just think it's fair that you know... I'm not gay, I'm bisexual," Dan said, leaning against the wall.

"I, however, am, Dan," Phil confessed.

Dan smiled lightly, "Hey, but there's nothing wrong with that. It just means that there's more for me."

Phil chuckled, continuing his homework. Dan pulled his sketchbook over and set his homework aside, drawing away.

"I'm wearing a blue tie," Phil said.

"For the dance?" Dan asked.

"Yeah," Phil replied.

Dan nodded, "I will, too, then. Bow ties?" Phil nodded, squirming a bit. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Phil lied.

"Phil..."

"Sorry, I just was thinking about the fact that we aren't dating. It's kind of weird," Phil replied.

"Well, I just thought we'd wait until after the dance. Then we'd know how it is to be a couple," Dan explained.

His friend looked back down, "I guess. I mean, I haven't even come out yet."

Dan grabbed his hand, "We'll do it together."

They went back to drawing and doing homework. It began to get late. The sky grew black, swallowing all light but the street light.

Dan decided to stay and called his mum, nervous about her finding out. "My mum doesn't know, " Dan said.

"Mine, either," Phil said, popping in Monty Python.

"Phil, I'm nervous," He confessed.

Phil walked back over and close to Dan. Hands on his shoulders, Phil looked him in the eyes.

"I'm here, Dan. Know that, " Phil comforted.

Dan nodded and looked down at his now closed sketchbook, "I know. I just... What will people think?"

"Forget what they think. It's us Dan," Phil said, staring at Dan's lips. Instead, he leaned in and kissed Dan's cheek. Surprised, he sat back against the wall and squeezed Dan's hand.

In shock, Dan smiled. Phil's hand in his made him feel giddy, shaky, and out of breath. They sat back and watched the movie, but fell asleep halfway through.

When Phil awoke, Dan was laying next to him with his arm around him on the tiny bed. It was still dark out, so he looked at the clock.

3:25am

Damn it... Phil thought. Frowning, he got up and headed for the bathroom, disturbing Dan on his way up.

After he went to the bathroom, he came back and climbed in bed. Near the end, Dan's sketchbook lay still. Show me... Phil begged in his mind. Just show me and I won't hate you, Dan. You can trust me, he thought.

The thoughts dissolved as he drifted back to sleep. In the morning, Phil shook Dan awake.

"Dan, wake up! We'll be late!" Phil whined, pushing him a bit.

"Ugh, why? Isn't it Saturday?" Dan groaned.

Phil thought for a moment, "It is Saturday." Dan raised a fist and made a fist pump before rolling back over and falling asleep. "Dan, please? I want to go out."

"Fine," Dan groaned, crawling out of bed. "Where are we going?"

"Well, I wanted to go to the carnival," Phil giggled

"Well, I wanted to go to the carnival," Phil giggled.

"Alright, well, let's get dressed. I'm paying," Dan blurted, standing up and walking over to Phil to plant a kiss on the top of his head.

Phil pushed the track sweater into Dan's arms and smiled, "Meet me downstairs. I'll make breakfast."

Phil disappeared down the stairs, and Dan took off his shirt, pulling on the warm sweater. Lester... Dan though, Daniel lester. Phil Howell. He felt like a little girl with her favourite band member.

"Dan, are you coming?" Phil shouted up the stairs.

"Yeah, be there in a moment!" Dan called. He looked at himself in Phil's mirror, smiling. He had the greatest future boyfriend ever. Running down the stairs, he tripped and fell onto the floor. Phil rushed in, brows raised. "I'm okay," Dan muttered, pulling himself up.

Phil led him to the kitchen and put a few pancakes onto his plate, "Eat up, Danny boy. Then, and only then, it's off to the carnival!"

Dan smiled.

This was their first date.
