A few days later, it was Friday. Dan went through the day, following Phil from class to class.

Phil's locker door closed, revealing Dan as usual, "Hey, Dan."

"Hey! So, I was thinking. We need to go and buy our bowties, Phil! Then maybe we could, you know, go out to dinner..." Dan said, trailing off. "But if you don't want to, I mean..."

Shoving Dan's shoulder, Phil laughed, "Dan, shut up. You know I want to."

"I was just being a smart ass," Dan said, pulling Phil towards him. They smiled at one another. Carefully, they grabbed hands and pushed through people as they went to their bus.

Instead of going to Phil's, they just went to the shops. In one shop, Dan was rushing around wildly.

"Three days until the dance!" He yelled excitedly. "Let's get these ties!" He held up matching blue bowties and gave Phil a shove to gain his attention.

Phil nodded, "Okay."

Dan rushed to the counter and paid for them, then gave the bag to Phil. He smiled and took the bag as they left.

"What about those flower things?" Phil asked.

"Oh, those? Let's just go to the florist's shop," Dan laughed.

Grinning, Phil grabbed Dan's hand, "I've always wanted one, I just never got them."

At the florist's, the teens debated back and forth. In the end, they settled on silver and blue flowers, then shrugged, paid, and went off.

"Dinner!" Dan laughed, pulling out Phil's chair for him at the restaurant.

"I'm getting whatever you're getting, so make it good," Phil said, pushing Dan's shoulder.

Dan ordered a burger and looked at Phil, "Was that okay? Did you want Rybena or not?"

"Yeah, yeah, I did. You did well," Phil giggled, reassuring Dan of his choice.

Dan sighed in relief, "Thank God. If not, I'd make a bad boyfriend."

Phil smiled lightly, "No you wouldn't."

"Could," Dan corrected

"Could," Dan corrected. Remembering what he had told him while he was asleep, Dan cringed. He figured he'd never work up that amount of courage again.

Their food arrived and the two of them began to chow down. Dan finished first and asked for the bill as Phil finished. He set the money down on the table and laughed as Phil swallowed.

"What's so funny?" Phil asked.

Dan sighed, "It's not funny, you see. It's just that I'm so awkward that sometimes I don't tell people things at the right time. I had it happen the other day and now I don't know if I want to say it to them again."

Phil had a suspicion, but left the situation alone. The rest of the day flew by, Dan kicking himself for not saying anything. Saturday they didn't see each other at all, texting most of the day.

Monday came and the school day dragged on so slowly that it physically hurt to contain the excitement building up in anyone.

Around five in the afternoon, Dan came around Phil's home and knocked. He was completely dressed, giggling like a little schoolgirl.
