Dan sat down, pulling Phil into the desk next to him. The timid boy smiled in return, then started scribbling down notes.
The sketchbook laying on Dan's desk was nearly full, scribbles of colour littering the side of the pages. Yet, he continued to draw. Every once in a while, the teacher would say something and he would look up and answer a question. But, after that, he would return to the pages.
Phil put a hand on his desk, causing Dan to stop drawing and look at it. Slowly, he closed his book and reached for his hand.
The bell rang and they stood, hand in hand. They walked to physics and bumped past the crowds of people. No one dared giggle about the day's events.
In the classroom, Phil set his stuff down and stood next to Dan. The teacher, Mrs. Marsh, came in and sat down.
"Sit down, shut up, and mind your own business. Nothing for you to do but read this hour. Someone thought it would be funny as hell to take my lesson plans," She muttered, pulling out a Shakespeare play.
Dan looked at Phil, "So I was thinking about coming out to my parents this weekend."
"It's two weekends before the dance," Phil said.
"Yeah, but they'll think it's weird that I go with a guy. I think I need to tell them," Dan replied.
Phil nodded, "Okay. Should I tell my parents, then?"
"Phil, you don't have to if you don't want to," He said, putting a hand on Phil's back.
"No, Dan. I want to," Phil blurted.
The brown-haired boy raised his hands, "Okay, okay."
The rest of the hour went by in silence, but Dan kept an arm around Phil's waist protectively. Noticing, Mrs. Marsh glared in their direction. However, she didn't say a word.
English started and they were silent. The tracer droned on for what seemed like year before the work was done.
The dance was just two weeks away, on a Monday night. It was all Dan could think about.
At the end of the day, Phil was putting his books away. When he closed his locker door, Dan stood behind it grinning at tee boy in front of him. Upon inspection, it was revealed to Phil that Dan had a question.
"I never actually asked you," Dan said.
"Asked me what?" Phil replied.
"Phil Lester," He started, "Would you be my date to the Autumn Formal?" He held out a rose. Phil grinned, accepting the rose with a kiss.
"Yes," Phil giggled, grabbing Dan's hand and sniffing the fragrant flower.
"Want to go to the cinema?" Dan asked.
"Why don't we just go to my house and watch Death Note?" Phil suggested.
Dan crinkled his nose with a smile, whispering, "Even better." He kissed the top of his head and started to head for the buses.
