Phil's grip on Dan's sleeve was tight, and Dan couldn't get away even if he wanted to. However, he willingly followed the shorter boy with his sketchbook under his arm.
"So, what are we doing today?" Dan asked quietly.
"Hopefully ordering pizza and talking about what we're gonna do to make sure that this project goes well," Phil replied.
Dan nodded, "Cool." Phil shrugged, putting a hand on Dan's shoulder gently as he swiped his Oyster card. "I could've gotten that..."
"Nah, it's okay. It's not a huge deal," Phil replied, smiling.
"Are you sure?" Dan asked, now following Phil onto the bus.
"Positive," Phil laughed.
Dan watched the boy with an observant gaze. Phil, however, didn't notice. He released Dan as they sat down, smiling lightly in his direction.
Dan kept his head low, scanning the bus with his chocolate-colored eyes. His eyes found Phil's, catching him staring. Both of the boys grew red and sat straight up, staring ahead.
"So... erm..." Phil muttered.
Dan nodded, "Yeah. Um, so, what's it like? Being new?"
"It's nothing," Phil shrugged.
Dan looked over at Phil, "Nothing? How can you even manage looking at anyone?"
"I don't know. Most of them don't bother me. It's only guys like Aiden that piss me off," Phil replied, looking down.
"It was bad at your old school I take it?" Dan asked, testing the waters.
Phil looked over, "No, why?"
Blushing, Dan shrugged, "I don't know, you just seemed genuinely bothered."
"I was bothered because he was messing with you," Phil stammered, turning away.
"I'm fine, you know that," Dan said calmly.
Phil shrugged, "I don't know. I just... I don't like it."
"Just don't worry about it," Dan muttered, staring at his own hand.
The black-haired boy sighed, sitting in silence the rest of the ride. They reached Phil's street and walked down until they found his house.
"Mum?" Phil asked, opening the door.
"Yeah, Phil?" She replied.
"I brought home my partner for a physics project, is that okay?" He asked.
Dan was peering around, interested in the pictures on the walls.
"It's fine," She answered. Phil wiped his brow and stretched out a hand for Dan's bag. Dan shook his head and stood in place. The shorter boy shrugged and removed his shoes, tossing them near the door.
Awkwardly, Dan did the same.
Phil began to ascend the stairs, "Just follow me."
The two walked into Phil's room, leaving the door open. Dan set his backpack down near Phil's bed, then began to explore the small room.
"Cozy," Dan offered, toying with a contraption Phil had left on the desk.
Phil shrugged, "I guess."
"Well, what now?" Dan asked awkwardly.
"Um, I'll order pizza," Phil suggested, grabbing his phone and dialing for the pizza man.
While Phil was ordering, Dan sat down on the corner of Phil's bed, cross-legged, and began to draw in his sketchbook.
"Alright. So, pizza is ordered," Phil chimed.
