For the whole journey home, Summer wouldn't shut up about Robin. When I say the whole journey, I literally mean for the whole twenty minutes in the car. I couldn't even turn the radio on because every time I went to turn one of the knobs on the stereo, she'd bat my hand away as if it were the last cake or something. I threw in the odd sigh here and there, to which she threw back cold stares. The word 'fit' popped in and out of her sentences, which made me cringe in my seat. "You do realise this is one of my best friends you're talking about?" I asked rhetorically as Summer slowed the car down to a halt on her small driveway. "I know." She replied, blushing. She stepped out of the car door and I copied, so we were facing each other over the car roof. "Well shut up then." I winked and walked over to the door. I knew she'd left it unlocked when we left so I let myself in quite happily and made my way into the living room. I could hear Summer wasn't far behind. I sunk down into one of the empty sofas and released my bag of clothes on to the floor beside me. Summer walked in a few seconds later and sat on the sofa beside me, also dropping her back next to her. She pulled her legs up in front of her and she wrapped her arms around them, holding them in place. She swung around to face me and opened her mouth to talk. "If you say one thing about Robin, I will throw something at you." I interrupted and moved myself around to face her too. "I wasn't going to." She pouted, letting her legs down and folding her arms. I kicked her gently. "Carry on then." I poked my tongue out and she continued. "You looking forward to the party? It's going to be huge." She made an action with her arms spread wide apart. "Who's is it anyway?" -"Oh. Didn't Daisy text you?" She looked down and twiddled her thumbs. "It's Joey's. I'm only going because everyone else is. It's gunna be fab though." I could tell she felt awkward. "You don't have to go, you know." -"I know, but his house is pretty big. Everyone else's going and I don't wanna miss out, you know?" I nodded, not making eye contact at all. "Well, I'll be there anyway, even if it is that idiot's party. I got you." I punched her arm jokingly. "Why don't you call Robin and ask if he wants to come?" I asked, sliding my phone out of my pocket and scrolling through my contacts in search of Robin. I clicked on his name and it instantly began to ring. I pushed the phone towards her and at first she didn't want to take it. I didn't retreat though, and eventually she reluctantly took the phone and held it to her ear. "Hey." She mumbled into the phone, almost silently. "Put it on speaker!" I mouthed as I kicked her leg again. She pulled it away quickly and pressed the speaker button. "Hey, um... Summer?" I heard Robin say, trying to figure out who the caller was. "Yeah, it's Summer!" I called into the phone, instantly causing Summer's cheeks to flush a bright scarlet. "And I'm guessing that's Demi." Robin chuckled. "Hey Demi!" -"Hey hun!" I replied. "Summer called to ask you something." I said to him, looking at Summer, ushering to the mobile. "Um, yeah." Summer paused and smiled widely. "Would you like to come to a party with me on the 15th?" -"Sure!" He replied almost instantly. Summer's smile widened more than ever. "Great! I'll text you some details on Demi's phone!" -"Right! Where should I meet you lot then?" -"We're at Daisy's, me, Demi, Daisy, Natasha, Joey and Thomas. We're going to leave at 7pm on the 15th, so maybe at half six?" -"Alright," He simply replied. "I'll see you then. Bye!" -"Bye!" Summer hung up the phone and dropped it on her leg. She breathed out deeply and stared at me. "Why'd you make me do that?!" -"Because if I didn't, you wouldn't have done it at all." -"True, true." She replied, standing up. "Fancy another cuppa?"
I brushed my hair into a high ponytail and pulled my leather jacket on over my white tank top. I jumped up and down one last time trying to pull the jeans up that little bit higher, and then gave up and stepped into my boots. I looked once more in Daisy's bedroom mirror and smiled to myself. I'd applied one line of eyeliner to each eye, and my mascara was pretty thick. It was the night of Joey's big party, and I was just as nervous as I was excited. It turned out that Joey's flat was just across the road from Daisy's, so even if we left early, we'd still hear all the rebound from the carnage over the street. I tucked my remaining clothes into the bag I had previously used to put my new clothes in, and pushed it under Daisy's bed, which she had let me use whilst I was staying. She had suggested staying at Joey's, but I didn't really trust him, so I said we could top and tail, to which she agreed. Daisy shared a room with Summer, and to be honest, it wasn't the biggest room in the world. There would be three girls, in their twenties, sharing a rather cramped room. I didn't really mind it, but lets just say that it wasn't my ideal option. My ideal option would be snuggled in a big bed with Jessie, with snacks, watching cheesy Disney films. That would be perfect. I found myself flopping down on the bed beside me, and closing my eyes for a few moments. Just imagine being here with Jessie. I thought to myself. I'd managed not to think about her for the past couple of weeks, but now it was like I'd knocked down a barrier that I'd held up for so long. Jessie's smile was now plastered in my mind. Her face, her cheekbones, her eyes, her cute little nose stud, her lips, just her. I now couldn't stop thinking about her. I didn't want to, I mean I really really didn't want to. I had better things to be doing, but instead I was laying in a room on my own, thinking about the girl I couldn't have.
"Demi!" I heard a voice call, followed by some light footsteps. I sat up briskly and blinked quickly, looking around me. I saw Natasha open the door and I stood up instantly, pulling the bottom of my tank top gently. "Are you okay?" She asked me, noticing I was hyperventilating. I didn't even notice I was hyperventilating, honestly. "Um, yeah. I think." I stammered, shuffling a little closer. "I think I need some air." I wobbled past Natasha and down the stairs quickly, nudging past Thomas, who was leaning on the hallway wall, one foot edged against it. Daisy was sitting with her phone, texting and giggling every few seconds. I pushed myself out of the door into the darkening street and I wandered down into the large alleyway to the side of the building. I leant against the wall, shielded by the shadow of the block of flats behind me, giving me the illusion that it was night. I slid down the wall until I was practically sitting on the cold concrete of the ground below. I rested my hands on my knees and looked up into the greyish sky that was embroidered with a white haze of clouds. The odd pigeon would fly past, and I watched them as they flung themselves clumsily across the sky. I took a deep breath out, finally happy that I had cleared the image of Jessie out of my head. Although my mind was blank, my senses were still pretty sharp. I could of sworn I could see a puff of smoke to the right of me. I stood up quickly and my head shot in the direction of the haze. "Hey." I heard a rough voice say, it was quite loud. Whoever it was, was pretty close. I saw another blur of what I thought was smoke, and I took a step back, a little closer to the plain line between the light of the hazy day, and the sharp dark. "Who is it?" I asked, trying to cover the nerves in my voice. "Don't you recognise me?" I rolled my eyes. "I can't see you-" I was going to call him a plonker, but I thought that would be stupid, considering I was in a London alleyway and it was starting to get dark. I felt a hand press my shoulder into the wall, and then I noticed the familiar blonde stubble. "What do you want?" I asked rhetorically, shrugging his grubby hand off of my new jacket. I saw a small orange blur fall to the ground, and then disappear as I heard a foot grinding across the floor. "I thought you didn't like to be irresponsible." -"Baby, do you really believe that? Aw." He pouted at me. He was now uncomfortably close. "I just tell the babe that to get her to like me." He smirked dirtily and I glared at him. "The babe has a name. She's Daisy; and she's stupid to even talk to a horrible person like you." I felt the strong hand press on my shoulder again, shoving me against the wall. "I'm not scared of you, you know." I mumbled, staring at him. "Daisy might be stupid, but I'm certainly not." -"Who said Daisy's stupid?" He growled, tightening the grip on my shoulder. I grimaced and closed my eyes for a second. "She's stupid for being with you." I said simply, forcing a sharp kick into his shin. He tripped back and fell hard into a large green bin sitting against the opposite wall. I tried to make a run for it, but he stood back up, he almost looked taller, broader. "Joey, I may be a girl, but trust me. I'm not scared of you." He wiped his lip- I still don't know why -and took a step towards me, clenching his fists. "You really want to hit me?" I clenched my fists in return, looking just as tough. "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm six foot. I can look after myself." I raised an eyebrow at him as he took a charge towards me. He took a swing at my head but I ducked, giving him a quick kick where it hurts. I stood back up and gave him a swift punch to the nose, causing a crimson trickle of blood to run down his lips. He stepped back in a daze and I punched him hard once again straight in the head. He dropped to his knees. "I swear to God, I liked life a lot better before you came back." -"Well," I began, tightening my ponytail and wiping a small amount of smudged lip gloss from my cheek. "Daisy's life was a lot better until you came in. Now, I suggest you leave her alone, or this will become a more frequent event for you. Bye bye, baby." I mimicked, winking at him and walking away.
I must say, I was pretty proud of myself.
