Before I tell you my story, I should probably explain who I am.
My full name is Demetria Hyde. I don't have a middle name. I know, it's weird. I've never really liked my name, well my full name, anyway. People call me Demi. I prefer it that way. People only ever call me Demetria if I'm in trouble. I find it quite hilarious really. Especially when my parents call me Demetria. Even though I'm twenty-two.
I'm quite childish for my age, and that's why most people treat me like a kid. I guess I don't really mind, because I hate being an adult, I really don't like being told to 'grow up' and 'mature myself'. Oh yeah, and since I was told to grow up by my parents, I decided to get a job, away from them. I work on a ship. 'The Georgia-Rose'. It's a pretty big boat, and it takes about an hour to walk from one end of the cabin hallways to the other, alone.
There are at least ten restaurants here, pretty big ones, too. Hundreds of cabins and tons of little corridors to explore and run down, after you've had a bit to drink. I'm not allowed to drink. I don't really like alcohol anyway, but with this job, you have to be on the ball all the time. I drink energy drinks instead. And do you understand how much emphasis is on the plural: drinks. I'm pretty much hooked on them. Monster, Rockstar, Relentless, name any, and I've probably had a few cans at some point in my life. I'm hyper a lot, too. But I have to be. I'm a waitress, and a maid, all in one. Maid by day, waitress by night.
I only ever get to go home once every six months, and that's only for a two week break. Then I'm back again, for another full six months. I live in a small place in London, and I have a few friends. I haven't been in a serious relationship for absolutely ages, but I guess that's down to my job. And my sexuality. Let's put it this way: I'm a girl that likes girls. It might sound weird now, but we're in 2013, get used to it. It doesn't make me any different really, but I don't sit at bars and dribble if a guy with buff arms walks past, like pretty much all of my other friends do.
I only really have three good friends, like I said before. Daisy, Natasha and Summer. Daisy is tall, with straight brown hair that flows down to her hips, Natasha is slightly shorter with shoulder length blonde hair, and piercing blue eyes, and then there's Summer. Summer is tiny, bless her. She's thin with a muddy blonde sort of hair colour, and she has green eyes. She's lovely, Summer. I do love my friends, but we only really occasionally see each other. My whole life really revolves around my work, because I'm travelling so much. Really I spend more time with celebrities than I do with my own friends.
I forgot to mention. As well as normal civilians travelling on the ship, we get the odd celebrity too. I love talking to them when I serve them, but there's always a down side to it. I have to get up at five-thirty in the morning to clear their rooms and help prepare their breakfast, and I don't get to go to bed until gone ten. I mean I love chatting to the likes of Katy Perry, Frank Iero, Ashley Purdy, and oh yeah! Once we even had Beyoncé, she was lovely. I only got to have a quick gossip with her, then I had to go and clean her room again. For a very nice woman, she does leave lots of clothes lying around.
I'm going off track now, sorry.
I'm pretty close to the guys I work with. Yeah, I prefer hanging out with guys. I'm quite a huge tomboy to be fair, I wear my hair up in a ponytail and when I first started working here, I refused to wear the dress for my uniform so they gave me a shirt and black trousers instead. Dylan and Robin are my two best friends on the ship. We get on so well, we have so much banter between the three of us. They completely accept me for who I am, and I love them for that. Dylan is more of the bad boy type, and we have a similar sense of humour, so we get on better when it comes to laughs. Robin is more laid back, so I can tell him pretty much everything, and he understands. I love them both.
So yeah, you could say my life is a bit weird. I don't like my parents, I work on a ship, I hardly see my friends, I'm gay, and I have conversations with celebrities.
But I love my life, it's like my personality.
Weird.
