I desperately pushed the people around me away, clearing myself a path. I heard Robin hot on my tracks, also causing commotion behind me. Annoyed drunken men everywhere, pretty big ones at that. My heart was pounding hard in my chest, and I could almost feel it rise up to my throat. Jessie's previous screams rang in my ears, making me feel physically sick. I kept running though, tripping on the odd beer bottle on the floor. Robin sped up behind me and grabbed my shoulder, jolting me to a sudden stop. "What are you doing?" I snapped, shouting over the music that was slowly getting louder and louder. "Come with me!" He replied, just as loud. "I think I know a shortcut!" -"How?!" I asked, beginning to chase Robin in the opposite direction. "I know where they went!" He called over his shoulder. "They?!" I shouted again, pushing myself through the wooden doors at the end of the bar, closely behind Robin. He didn't answer, he just kept running. Eventually, he broke into a sprint and I found it hard to keep up, but I had to. Jessie was in trouble. Who was she with?
We ran through a long stretch of corridors, until we reached a flight of stairs. Robin sprung up the steps, two at a time, with me close behind. My legs began to burn and ache but I couldn't stop running. I gripped the bannisters tightly, sliding my hands up with every step I took. "Thought you said this was a shortcut!" I panted, turning the corner that lead to another few steps. "Trust me, it's quicker than the way you were heading." Robin replied, jumping up the last three steps. "Hurry up! We're nearly there!" He shouted motivationally. I nodded and followed his footsteps, running down one last corridor. The next thing I knew, we were facing a short wooden door. "This leads to the main deck." He whispered. "Listen." We pressed our ears to the door and head very quiet mumbles, impossible to understand. "That's Jessie!" I cried, forgetting that we were supposed to be quiet. Robin pressed a finger to his lips harshly and twisted the small brass doorknob. He pushed the door open slowly and slid through, pushing his back onto the side of the ship. He stood a few steps to the left, his feet making hardly any noise on the wooden boarded floor. He leant forward and looked to his left, his eyes focusing on the front of the deck. It was nearly 1:30am, so there was nobody up there on the top of the ship. I followed in Robin's footsteps, tentatively pressing my back onto the cold, sea-sprayed outer wall of some of the higher class cabins. I crouched down below a porthole and tried to regain a steady breath, whilst Robin stood hidden, behind a small turning in the very top of the ship.
He stood, motionless. I looked up at his bold silhouette and sighed deeply, causing a misty white daze to float in front of my mouth. My chest pace slowed rapidly and I flattened my hair with my hand. "Why are we here?" I whispered, almost silently. I was actually surprised he heard me. "Wait." he replied thoughtlessly, bringing a stern hand to the back of his neck, which he clutched tightly. He slowly turned to face me. He leant back on the water coated 'wall' and looked at me strangely. I maintained the eye contact with him as he opened his mouth to speak. "I told you I knew where they'd be." He whispered, louder than I previously had. He almost had a worried glint in his eye. "What do you mean, they?" I asked, standing up to my full height. "Jessie," He paused, breathing in heavily. "and Dylan." I felt my cheeks flush with rage, and I shot forward. I got a glance of two tall figures, standing opposite each other, with one thick line connecting them. I couldn't quite figure out what it was, but I could instantly identify the figures. Robin was right. I felt him pull me back by the shoulders, until I was stood in front of him, facing the opposite way. He held his arms around my waist tightly, restricting me from moving at all. It all felt too familiar. "What are they doing?" I snapped fiercely, attempting to elbow Robin in the stomach, demanding for release. He only tightened the grip on my waist with one arm, this time clenching my hand with his free hand. "It'll all be okay, trust me." He whispered reassuringly. I didn't want to be reassured. I had no clue what could happen. Jessie and Dylan were standing a few feet away from me, and something wasn't right about it. I couldn't even go to look. "What's he going to do?" I asked quietly, my eyes burning from the constant sea spray lingering in the bitter night air. "Nothing. Not whilst I'm on this ship." Robin released my hand quickly, just as I heard what I thought was smashing glass. He sprung sideways, pushing me into the cold hard wall beside us. I stood in shock silently. I heard several shouts, followed by a high pitched scream and footsteps coming towards me. I leant back into a large shadow the wall had casted, and let the figure run past me, until I noticed who it was.
It was Jessie.
I started to make a run for it, after her, but I felt a familiar hand grab my wrist yet again. I felt myself being pulled back down and onto the floor. I laid in a trance for a few seconds, until my eye sight adjusted and I saw a black silhouette run away, following Jessie. At first, I thought it was Robin, trying to go and 'save the day' like he'd made out he'd do, but it wasn't. I heard a groan behind me and I sat up, swinging my legs around. Robin lay there, a small pool of blood surrounding him, and a thin layer of glass encrusting his shirt sickeningly, coated in small blood and water droplets. The sight of him laying there, semi unconscious, made me feel physically sick. I pulled myself to my knees and slid myself towards him, as we hit a large wave. I felt myself jolt up and I caught myself on my feet, just about. I stood there, looking down at my best friend, laying on the deck. I walked towards him and resumed my position to my knees beside him. I touched his cold cheek gently and he opened his eyes quickly. He looked up at me, his eyes watery. "I saw a fist come towards me, then I fell down onto the glass." He whispered. "Take your time..." I whispered back gently. "I carried on shouting. I think Dylan hit me." He coughed. He tried to sit up a little and I heard a horrible crunching noise beneath him. I ran a hand through my damp hair and held his shoulders, aiding him up. He coughed again, making me flinch. I looked down at the shattered glass that was pretty much everywhere. "Did he hit you hard?" -"Sorta, I'm okay though." he whimpered. He lifted his hand up and touched the small cut on his head, that was causing a small trickle of blood flow down his cheek. I kissed his clean pale cheek and smiled. "You'll be okay, is there glass in your back?" I asked. "Ah shut up, this is me you're on about. I'm fine." He answered, his eyes widening slightly.
All of a sudden, he sprung into life and stood up beside me, making me stand up and step back abruptly. He wiped his head violently with his sleeve and shot a weird look towards me, his eyes glinting in the darkness.
"Let's go kick some drunk arse."
