You know what I find stupid in romance stories? Well, that's a pretty ridiculous question, there are many choices to choose from. I guess I'll just say and not leave you guessing.
When the writer compares people to "works of art".
Like so:
Her face was perfect a work of art.
His arms were a work of art as if they were sculpted by Leonardo Da Vinci himself.
His face was sight to behold, a work of art unknown to man.
You get the idea. Not only does it sound way over the top and dramatic, it's also annoying when they just leave it at that and don't even ADD an actual description. So, for all we know, he could look butt-ugly, a reflection of modern art (If you want to know, modern art is the kind of art where it looks like someone puked color on a canvas).
Plus, it's over used. If I had a quarter for every time I read this phrase, I'd be a gazillionare. It's all over the place.
I know your trying to be "poetic" and all, but that's a pretty sad attempt. Please be poetic and come up with an original and less stupid phrase so I don't have to puke a little in my mouth every time I see it.
You know, it's kind of funny that people would compare other people to "works of art" considering that there are varieties of artwork and not all of them are in the least pretty.
Me: You look like a work of art!
Guy: Really?
Me: Yeah. The kind my cousin makes.
Guy: Huh?
Me: She's two.
