You see Coulson smirk out of the corner of your eye as you continue to look at Clint, speechlessness written all over your features.

"So," Clint smirks. "You're the newest avenger."

"Yeah-"

"Actually." You interrupt. "Not yet. I haven't exactly decided if I were to be joining you guys, I've only decided to help."

"Help?" Natasha Romanoff raises her eyebrows while looking to Fury or Maria for an explanation.

"Agent Y/L/N." Fury sighs. "Take Barton and explain things to him, we'll take the rest."

"Sir?" You raise your eyebrows in his direction, confusion was written all over your face.

"Is there a problem Agent?" He questions.

"Guess not." You mumble. "C'mon Barton."

"Barton?" Clint demands as he follows you out the double doors. "What happened to Clint?"

"I don't know." You shrug, the talking ceases as you continue down the hall, neither of you wanting to break the silence just yet but Clint finally decides to take that first step.

"Guess you're over that phase huh?" He chuckles.

"What do you mean?" You demand.

"Well, you no longer have R/H/C anymore for starters." He chuckles, you tentatively reach up to touch your natural L/S H/C hair.

"Yeah, I guess." You mutter.

"And you're a SHIELD agent," Clint adds.

"Yup...."

"And had some run-ins with Hydra I heard." He finishes, you stop in your tracks and turn to look at him.

"I'm sorry, I just can't do this." You state while throwing your hands in the air and stalking down the way you guys came but turning down another hall to go to your room, leaving Clint sitting in the middle of the hall with an expression of hurt mixed with confusion.

*TIME SKIP BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE AVENGERS PLAYING TRUTH OR DARE*

"Y/N," Maria states from the doorway of Coulson's teams' hangout area.

"Maria." You reply in the same tone, she sighs while looking at her shoes; you turn away.

"You have to come out." She whispers. "Barton isn't himself, he thinks he really hurt you."

"He left me." You reply, your voice barely above a whisper, tears stream down your face as you continue to stare at the little spec of dirt on the floor. "He left me when my parents died, even though I was there for him when his did. Because of him, I was kidnapped by the stupid Red Room the day of their funeral."

"Y/N." Maria sighs for the second time. "That isn't his fault and you know it, it might've ended worse if he was there."

"Maria." You mumble. "I know you're right but I can't just get rid of the feeling, the feeling that he could've stopped it if he was just there."

"That's because I was there." A male voice states, you look up with tears still in your eyes but you quickly wipe them away when you see Clint; Maria quickly stands and leaves the room. "I watched you with that Callen dude and I watched you sprint home."

"Why didn't you come see me?" You whisper. "I left right when I got home and then got kidnapped."

"I know, I knew I should've." He whispers as he slowly kneels down in front of you. "That was a mistake and I know that I'm going to make many more in my life but not today because letting you slip through my fingers again would be a huge mistake."

"Clint." You whisper, your voice slightly shaking. "What are you saying?"

"I'm saying that I love you, I always have. I just want you to give me a chance." He replies, when you don't answer right away; he shakes his head and takes yours in his hands. He stares into your E/C eyes for a second longer before pulling your head towards his and smashing his lips onto yours. You don't hesitate as your wrap your arms around his neck, you feel him smile into the kiss which causes you to do the same. Finally, you break apart for air, resting your foreheads on each others.

"I love you too." You whisper. "And I'm really glad you didn't make that mistake today."
