A quarter til midnight as the Snow family all slept soundly in their beds, all but one. Hannah Snow laid snuggled on the couch watching late night movies. She had just turned seventeen and was very pregnant with her first child. It was unexpected and a huge surprise to the family whom never thought this would happen. Feelings still sore on the subject, they accepted that their daughter was a mother and we're ready to welcome the child with open arms and hearts. The father has yet to step up and was very much a lost cause. Hannah munched on a huge blue bowl of buttery popcorn as screams emitted from the television. Entranced by the movie, she never noticed or heard the window behind her open and a shadowy figure dashed inside. Hannah never had a chance to act as the figure darted and had a hand upon her mouth and his other hand clasping a knife to her throat. She began to struggle but his grip was like iron and wouldn't budge.
"It's futile, sweetheart." She snickered in her ear, "I just want one thing and I'll be on my way."
The only thing that came to mind was either he was going to rape her or her child. She began to kick and struggle with ever bit of strength she had in her.
"Good luck, in the mean time I'll make this quick." With that he dropped the knife only force his hand inside her swollen belly as if by magic. He quickly pulled out a tiny baby, her baby. No incisions, no pain, no blood. Everything went black.
Waking up, she was in a hospital bed with an ivy attached to her arm. Rubbing her head, everything came back to her. She tossed aside her blanket to examine her belly only to realize she indeed wasn't pregnant anymore.
"My baby!"
"Hannah?" Her mother came toward her to calm her down.
"Where is he? What happened?"
"We heard a noise and went downstairs to find you unconscious on the couch with your shorts drenched, your water broke so we rushed you to the hospital. They delivered him by c-section but Hannah... He didn't make it...he was stillborn..." Tears ran down her face.
"No! Someone broke in and by magic or whatever you call it ripped him from my belly, stole him!"
"No, Hannah, he's here..." With that she walked out into the hall where mumbling was heard. After a few minutes her mother opened the door wider for a nurse who rolled in an bed, a still blue bundle lay inside. She stopped only to pick up the bundle and bring it toward her. Once the bundle was laid in Hannah's arms, she uncovered it to reveal a newborn baby. The baby was so still and appeared to be sleeping only he would never wake up. He had hair as black as night, his face and skin pale and blotched, lips and nails dark and black, he was limp and shows no sign of movement.
"This isn't my baby..."
"Yes...it is..." Tears ran down her mother's face.
"No it isn't!" She shoved the child back into the nurses' arms.
"Hannah! That's your baby boy! He's dead and we can't do anything about it! Just accept it..." Her mother was now distraught at her daughter's delusions.
"He's alive! He was stolen from me!" She tried to come out of the bed but the nurse restrained her after laying the child back down.
"Let me go! I need to find my son!"
"I need help!" The nurse shouted as she was losing her grip. More nurses rushed in, male and female. They restrained her to the bed as another carried a syringe full of clear liquid. He injected the liquid into her ivy and after a few minutes passed, Hannah became drowsy and relaxed. She slumped on the bed and passing out.
"Thank you..."
"Want me to take the child back now that she's seen him? Need to get him ready for burial." The nurse asked looking at the child.
She walked over to the baby bed and looked at the still newborn. She bent forward and placed a kiss upon the baby's head, his skin ice cold to the touch.
"Sleep tight, sweet Lincoln, I look forward to seeing you again..." She would say running away tears. The nurse than rolled him away.
