Atira

After Ladon ran off, silence thickened the air. I turned to Taryn and saw the contemplating look hovering over her features. She then got up and ran after him yelling.

"Ladon! Wait! What's wrong?"

Nate and I then watched her disappear around the corner of the cabin. I smiled, knowing that if Nate would have ran like that I would have done the same thing. Turning my gaze to him, he matched my eyes and I saw he had smile tugging at the corner of his mouth too.

"So what do think of them?" I asked nonchalantly, trying to bring up the topic of 'dating', or so Taryn calls it. When you go eat dinner with a person you like. I wanted to discreetly bring it up; maybe he would ask me to date him?

Nate shrugged, "Are they- dating?"

My confusion was immediate. How did Nate know what 'dating' was? It took at least fifteen 'min-utes' or however you pronounce them, for Taryn to explain what dating was to me. Ladon and Nate must have talked more than I realized.

"I err- I think they are." I replied quickly, trying to hide my confusion. I decided just to ask him, it is not that big of a deal!

"How did you-" I started to speak but he finished my sentence.

"Know what dating means? Uhm I just guessed, Ladon had mentioned something earlier about taking Taryn on a 'dating'." Nate stuttered running a nervous hand through his golden curls.

Something was suspicious here. I think he's lying to me. Why else would he be so nervous? Why can he not just tell me? It cannot be that important.

"I'm not lying, it's just not that important." Nate mumbled then caught himself and quickly looked away, refusing to meet my eyes. He just repeated my thoughts. Exactly.

What are you not telling me Nate? I was starting to get a bit irritated with his lack of trust. With that he quickly looked up and started apologizing.

"It is not that I do not trust you or anything! Do not think that!" He started tapping a hand on his leg. I knew that gesture. It was when he was keeping a secret, or trying to hide something from me. Like the time when we were little and he accidentally knocked my favorite glass pony statue from my bedside table. Or the time he had made a birthday present for me and had dropped it in the river as he rode to the castle. It was not always a bad secret, but I wondered all the same what he was keeping from me.

Immediately Nate stopped tapping his leg. My goodness, it was like he could read my thoughts or something. Wait a second, oh I love using Taryn's strange sayings; they really cheer me up. Anyways, what if he really could-? I decided to try something.
