I cut my car off then headed into work. Jasmine someone who I work with stopped me while I was in the hall.

"Hey" I smiled softly. Something I haven't done in a few days

"Hey" she smiled "I had something to tell you"

"Yeah?"

"Ms.Betsy isn't doing too well"

My fake smiled dropped and my heard sunk "Like what do you mean?"

"She's getting sicker and sicker everyday"

I walked past her and went into the room she was staying in. They had her hooked up to a few wires and she had the tubes through her nose. My eyes watered watching her hooked to all this stuff. She never had to be under all of this before.

"Aunt Betsy" I walked up to her

She turned her head with some strength and looked at me "Oh hi baby"

"Hi" I smiled genuinely "How are you feeling?"

"Just as bad as that girls weave" she said

"Aunt Betsy" I laughed a little. Atleast she still had room to make me laugh "You're still really funny"

"I try hun" she formed a small smile

"I need you to get better" my words cracked

"Didn't I always tell you cut that crying out girl. I'm not going to be here forever and you just have to accept that"

"I know but I'm hoping you could be a little longer" I wiped the single tear that fell down my cheek

"When it's my time God going to call me and there's nothing anybody can do about it. You know I love you and I need you to be strong for me"

I nodded but couldn't stop from crying. I love her so much even though she isn't my biological Aunt but she's like another mama to me. I've been taking care of Aunt Betsy for awhile and it feels like forever. She's always taught me to value myself and to cherish life. Whenever I had a problem she knew about it. I just recently told her about what happened with Jaiden and King. She listened to me and also talked to me.

"Stop that crying baby" she reached her hand up and wiped my face "What's going on with that boy Jaiden?"

I sniffed "He keeps on begging me to give him a chance. All he does is apologize to me and tell me how much he regrets what he did. I just don't want to give another chance. He hurt me so bad and I can't forgive him for what he did"

"You want to know what my mama always told me?"

I nodded

"Forgiveness doesn't mean you are pardoning or excusing the other person's actions. Forgiveness doesn't mean you should forget the incident ever happened. Forgiveness doesn't mean you have to continue to include the person in your life.... and forgiveness isn't something you do for the other person" I took in everything she was saying "By forgiving, you are accepting the reality of what happened and finding a way to live in a state of resolution with it. This can be a gradual process and it doesn't necessarily have to include the person you are forgiving. Forgiveness isn't something you do for the person who wronged you. It's something you do for you."

"I never thought of it like that"

"So if forgiveness is something you do for yourself and if it can help you heal, why is it so hard?"
