It got to two o clock and she got up, a smile on her face as she watched how his eyes watched her. "You need to get up, I'm starving,"
He raised an eyebrow, "for food?"
"Yes for food,"
She dodged as he chucked a pillow at her and walked into the bathroom, purposefully closing the door and not locking it.
Sure enough she felt strong, now so familiar arms around her waist and lips at her neck. She couldn't help but rest her head back against his shoulder and laugh, "stop," she smiled, "I'm really really hungry and I'm even more uptight when I'm hungry,"
He washed her gently, pulling her against his chest as she pushed him directly under the water.
They finally made it out two hours later, "it's your fault you know," she told him,
"And yours... I didn't know that it took that long to do your hair,"
She rolled her eyes, "coming from the man who spent just as long on his facial hair,"
"Touché," he laughed, squeezing her hand as they finally agreed on a restaurant along the high street to eat in.
"Connie, it's Charlie," he told her on the phone, "where are you?"
"In a restaurant on Holby high street, why?"
"Your husband has been bought in... With an asthma attack, looks like he will be here for a couple of days... I just wanted to warn you he's no longer being held in custody, but he will go back once he leaves here,""
"Right," she uttered, the happiness she'd experienced over the last 48 hours dissipating rapidly,
"Do you need me to come over?"
She smiled, "thanks for letting me know, but no I don't..."
She could almost see the smirk that would have been on his face, "say no more,"
"See you tomorrow Charlie,"
Jacob placed his hand on her shoulder and kissed her hair before he sat opposite her,
"What's happened?" He asked and took her hand, "don't tell me everything's fine when it's not,"
"How do you do that?" She asked, "how can you read me so easily,"
He shrugged, "I can't read you, but I can sense when your mood changes, I don't know why,"
She squeezed his hand, "Michaels out of jail, he's in Holby following an asthma attack, Charlie called to tell me..." She sipped her wine, "he will go back into custody when he's discharged,"
They thanked the waiter and Jacob watched her closely, "no such thing as a perfect day is there," she smiled and he shrugged,
"I will do my upmost to protect you," he told her honestly, "I don't know if that changes how you feel,"
She sipped her glass of wine, a gentle smile on her face as she looked at him, "I feel safe with you," she told him, "and many other things besides,"
"You've been protecting me since you started working here, I'll will never be able to thank you enough for that."
He didn't want to appear over protective the next day. Although many of the staff had a good idea about what had gone on, it was something that they had handled respectfully and the gossip had stayed to a minimum. Jacob watched as Rita hugged Connie, the two of them had sorted out their differences a while ago and were now good friends.
"She okay?" She asked Jacob quietly, watching how he kept glancing at their boss,
"Yeah," he smiled, "I just don't want to appear over protective,"
"She'll call you if she needs you," Rita told him, "she trusts you,"
"I don't trust him not to show up and try and find her," Jacob admitted, "and that puts me on edge,"
"Security are aware," Rita replied
A knock on her office door caused her to look up and a smile spread across her face.
She pushed herself up to stand and walked over to him. He pulled her into his chest and she placed her hands either side of his neck,
"How are you?" He asked, his lips pressing soft kisses to her cheeks,
She tiptoed up so her mouth was by his ear, "struggling to walk after yesterday,"
He couldn't help but laugh loudly, he hadn't quite expected her to be so honest,
She reached behind him and subtly closed the blinds, before her hands fell to the belt on his uniform trousers,
"Connie..." He breathed as he felt her release him, her breath falling against his exposed skin,
She looked up from where she knelt in front of him, her hand running teasingly across his abdomen, her mouth pressing soft kisses just above where he wanted them,
"Want me to stop?" She asked and he groaned, "god no,"
"Then you have to be quiet,"
"Hold on..." He whispered, pulling her up to him and kissing her once before undoing her shirt so he could see her bra,
"That's better," he smiled, groaning again as she removed her shirt and bra completely.
As she finished her ministrations, She got up and drunk the last of her tea, laughing lightly at how he now sat with his back against the door , his legs outstretched in front of him.
He watched her as she put her bra and shirt back on,
"You have three minutes to pull yourself together staff nurse masters," she told him, "I have a meeting in ten minutes,"
"Come and sit here," he smiled lazily and she shook her head,
"No... Because then I will most definitely be late,"
He pulled himself up and sorted himself out, still on a high from the woman that stood before him, "come on, I'll walk you to your meeting,"
She rolled her eyes and took his hand, "Don't expect treatment like that every time you enter my office,"
He kissed her cheek, "I'll return the favour tonight,"
"I look forward to it," she blushed and he kissed her mouth once quickly before disappearing down the corridor.
