She sat opposite her ex husband and knew immediately it had been a mistake coming here. He had apologised for hurting her, numerous times, but when she'd mentioned him stabbing Jacob he'd shown his true colours once again. Although he'd admitted to the stabbing, he had tried to pin the blame on her moving on so quickly. She knew he was manipulative, but she had never realised it was to this extent. She sighed, before picking up her bag and standing before him.
"I wanted nothing more than you to show some remorse for stabbing the man who fixed what you broke," she spoke slowly, "but now, we're done... I hope being in here isn't too terrible for you,"
"Connie,"
She shook her head, "let me get on with my life," she told him, "I deserve to be happy, please don't contact me again."
He hadn't spoken or seen her that morning. He was annoyed with himself for not being able to support her properly, but he couldn't find it within himself to offer to go with her. He sighed and grabbed his keys, he was so angry with himself for letting her go alone.
She stepped outside the prison and as the air hit her she inhaled deeply. She'd made a mistake coming here and now she was hurting and angry.
A car horn made her look up and she felt the tears roll down her cheeks as she watched Jacob get out of the taxi and jog over to her.
He didn't say a word and pulled her into his strong arms,
"He was horrible," was all she managed to utter and he held her tighter and kissed her hair,
"Will you let me take you home sweet cheeks?"He asked, and she nodded as she took his hand in her own, before handing him the keys to her car.
She was quiet on the way home and the silence unnerved him. The sadness that exuded from her took him back to how she'd been after each time Michael had hurt her and he couldn't help but wonder why she'd gone.
"Go upstairs and get into bed," he told her gently as he guided her into the house, "I'll make us some tea and be up in a minute,"
"How is she Jacob?" Charlie asked over the phone and Jacob sighed, "like she was after he'd hurt her," he admitted, "she was so quiet in the car,"
"She loves you... Go and show her why," Charlie told him, "you know how to handle her better than anyone."
"Thanks Charlie,"
He felt tears in his own eyes as he saw her sat on the edge of the bed in her underwear, her eyes full of unshed tears,
He placed the tea on the side before pulling back the covers, "get in," he told her, pulling off his own clothes before slipping into the bed beside her.
She cuddled into his chest, her legs slipping between his and allowed herself to cry against his chest. He held her tightly, running his hands through her hair.
A while later she sat up and disappeared into the bathroom to remove her makeup and wash her face.
She got back into the bed beside him, sipping her tea, before cuddling into him again.
"He apologised for hurting me," she admitted, "he said he'd never really lost his temper before we lost our daughter... He said he didn't blame me..." She ran her hand over his chest, "and then he said he stabbed you because I moved on so fast, he said it was my fault and I..." She shrugged, "the fact he showed no remorse for that made me so angry and showed me that he really is as terrible as I thought..."
She looked up at him, "I'm sorry, I know you didn't want me to go, and I went, and I wish I hadn't..."
"I'm sorry for ruining your afternoon watching me like this, and I'm sorry for behaving just how I did after he hurt me... I know this is hard for you to go through too,"
He kissed her forehead, "I'm sorry I didn't come with you this morning,"
She shook her head, "thank you for taking me home,"
He smiled, "I'll always bring you home."
They spent the rest of the evening eating takeaway and drinking wine. He had fallen asleep on the sofa with his head on her thighs and she ran her finger tips gently over his defined shoulders,
"I can't wait to marry you," she smiled, "you didn't have to come and pick me up today, many men wouldn't have... I don't know what I'd do without you Jacob Masters."
She shook him gently, "Come on fiancé, let's go to bed and forget today ever happened.
He smiled, "I got to drive your car and spend the day cuddled up with you, it wasn't all bad."
