A good nights sleep

She sat and watched the man that stood before her in the courtroom. She tried to remember how happy they'd once been, she tried to think about the times where she hadn't felt uneasy around him. She linked her fingers with Jacobs and as she felt him squeeze her hand gently, she knew that her husband had never loved her the way this man did.

She'd loved Michael initially, but she couldn't remember that anymore.

"Guilty," was the last word she heard before she woke to find Jacob, Charlie and Rita around her as she opened her eyes.

"You fainted," Charlie told her gently, "but you did it, you both did it,"

Rita hugged Connie gently, "we need to get back to work, but I'll pop by tomorrow,"

Jacob shook Charlie's hand and hugged Rita, before smiling as Connie stood and allowed Charlie to envelop her into a hug,

"You let that man look after you now," he smiled, "I'll see you tomorrow,"

Connie smiled and leaned into Jacobs chest as he held her too him,

"It's over," she whispered and he nodded,

"We can finally start our lives together properly," she smiled and he kissed her forehead,

"Do you want to go home,"

She shook her head, "can we go for a walk?"

"We can go wherever you want sweet cheeks,"

She lay with her head on his lap as they took in the view around them. "I like it here," she spoke, the first words she'd uttered since they'd left the court room.

He slipped his free hand under her thin blouse, his fingertips caressing her warm skin, his other hand running gently across her forehead.

"Me too," he replied and she closed her eyes.

"I believe it was fate that the only free seat in the bar that night was next to you," he spoke quietly as he watched her. She looked almost peaceful, her eyes were closed, and her chest moved up and down slowly.

"I don't know what I did to deserve you, but I promise to never let you doubt how much I love you,"

She slipped her fingers through his as they rested on her stomach and he smiled as he too closed his eyes.

She stirred a while later, realising the sky had long turned dark and cold. She sat up slowly, smiling at how peaceful Jacob looked despite the uncomfortable upright position he'd fallen asleep in.

She placed her hand on his cheek, before she kissed his lips once,

"Con?"

She rolled her eyes, "we're not in bed, come on, let's head home."

He stood up tiredly, and was surprised as she slipped her arms around his neck and pressed her lips against his own. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her deeply,

She knew how he felt about her and she knew that despite his cocky exterior that he was sure he'd lose her.

"We have a whole day off tomorrow," she spoke quietly and he pulled away and took her hand again,

"That we do," he smiled, "fancy a duvet day?"

"I fancy you," she grinned and he laughed.

"Connie?" He asked as he entered the room with two glasses of wine. She lay on top of the covers wearing only her underwear and it was quite clear that in the time it had taken him to open and pour the wine she'd fallen asleep.

He smiled before heading back downstairs to replace the wine with water, grab the spare duvet and head back up to where she slept. He covered her up and slipped into the bed behind her, slipping his arm gently over her waist. They both slept for the first time in weeks without waking, and that in itself was a sign that things were looking up.
