I had sat in the library in the old leather sofa facing what was a beautiful fire place. Sitting there in the silence with my head braced between my hands made me only see the face over and over again as if it was taunting me. Who the hell is that? Mom?
There was silence. Great now she isn't even talking to me. Seeing as it had gotten dark outside again and my stomach was beginning to growl, I set out to find dinner of some kind. However, before I left the library I promised I would return and figure out who the hell that man was and to play on that piano again.
The corridors were like a maze and I was the rat destine to get to that piece of cheese at the end of the tunnel. Hopefully, there would be more then cheese there because I was starving. Thankfully, I remember the entrance corridor from when I ran out before. Seeing as I could once again run, I realized I didn't want to run. Where would I even run if I could escape? I mean I didn't seriously want to go back to that school. Unless to visit Andrea, but nothing else. I had to move on in life instead of being under the command of Madame Pricker forever. Plus, something was up with her. She wasn't herself anymore.
Voices roared to life as I glided down the hallway to a massive dinning table lined with the teens I had seen before, Isabelle, my father, and next to the only empty seat Madame Pricker herself. Maybe I could just slide in and just start the interrogation of her abnormal behavior? I mean when did she ever leave the Institute? Well except for her vacation which only consisted of her staying in her home in the woods nearby.
Sadly, sneaking in unnoticed was washed down the drain when Isabelle stood from her spot at the head of the table to say, "Cecily, please come and join us."
I moved to the sit beside a stern looking Madame Pricker, only to see everyone whispering and then looking at me sideways. Just like back at the school. As if I couldn't see them making fun of me behind my back. My father looked at me from his seat beside Isabelle and then I saw who sat next to him. Zane. He stared straight at me with muted hatred written only in his crystal blue eyes. Oh this was going to be fun. Just like Tyler.
"Madame Pricker, how long are you staying for?"
I looked at her sideways and could see her jaw clench, "I leave tomorrow morning first thing."
"Oh what a shame, you never get out to see anything but that stupid old school." I leaned back in my chair to smirk at when I saw Madame Pricker clench her fist.
"That stupid old school is my pride and joy I would rather not leave it in the hands of some un educated being for too long."
I nodded like I understood and could see Isabelle and my father watching me, not knowing if they should stop me or not. Well, they probably should've. "Right, because all your family is dead." I then added quickly, "Oh wait you never had any family."
Isabelle interrupted, "Cecily!"
Madame Pricker then turned quickly to look at me, and that's when I saw it. Her eyes. Through the many years I had many evil stares from Madame Pricker for being rebellious and reckless, and I thought her eyes were always like black voids because she had issues, but I could see it now. They resembled the same as the man I had seen in the library when she was angry with me.
She hissed through her teeth, "That school is my family, Cecily. And it was once yours, so show it some respect or..."
I smirked at her and didn't know what drove me, but I stood from the chair and got in her old wrinkled face, "Or what? You have no power over me anymore, you aren't my guardian anymore! So..." I needed to see how far I could drive her, "what could you possibly do?"
