I awoke to a start and felt the breathe in me being sucked away.
"Cecily."
The blood pounded in my ears rushing to help my lungs function.
"Cecily, calm down."
The ceiling was painted light blue giving the appearance of a perfect sky and my mind suddenly took control. "The Institute." I whispered to myself mostly, but the same voice responded.
"Cecily you are safe here."
The voice made me feel the comfort I hadn't felt in my entire life. The motherly touch in my life that had been replaced by hatred and hope.
I slowly began to sit up only to have a light hand be placed on my forearm. The touch made a new wave of protection sweep over me. My eyes followed the pale arm up too stare into the striking green eyes of my mother.
Her thin lips stretched into a pained smile,"Oh Cecily." Those green eyes filled with tears.
"Mom?" I jerked away from her touch,"How.....how can you be here? I thought...."
"Sebastian sent me, Cecily." I narrowed my eyes and that's when she seemed to shimmer and I saw just the real her.
Bruises, blood, and lash marks decorated her pale skin as well as painful carvings that seemed to resemble runes. Her face was covered in scratches that hadn't healed and dark shadows underlined her sparkling eyes.
"Cecily, you need to listen too me." She clung desperately to my hand. "You need to tell your father what is going on, tell the Clave everything that is happening."
"But..."
"Sebastian thought seeing me would bait you into coming to look for me but...."
"Mom, have you seen yourself? I can't just...just let him kill you!" I freed myself of her grasp and jumped to a stand. "He wants me, so if I give myself over..."
"NO!" Her voice raised to a desperate cry,"Cecily, you can't do that."
"Why not?!? You're going to die!!!"
"There's just things you don't understand, Cecily. And I'm already dead sweetheart. Just please go tell..."
"No, Mom! Look I haven't know you or Dad for all of month, but you're my parents and I'm not going to let you die. Especially not at the hands of your brother." I paused looking her over,"If this Clave is anything like the government it could be months before they investigate on the situation, so looks like I have to take matters into my own hands. Mom can you tell me anything about where you are?"
"Cecily, you listen to me.....Do NOT come here alone. There's things here that only hell knows of."
"You can't scare me into not coming." I stiffened all over as she stepped past the bed and took my hands in hers.
"Just like your father, stubborn and so darn determined."That pained smile made a reappearance,"I'm trapped in a place only you have been too by Madame Pricker, please Cecily just take too mind that you are a treasure to be found."
"But, why mom?"
Her body started to shimmer,"You'll find out soon enough, Cecily. I love you."
And with that she was gone in a whisp of wind. As the questions rose in my mind I became fascinated to see my hands began to shake slightly and glow brighter then they ever had. Minutes maybe hours passed and I stood there and went through countless explanations to tell my father.
Sadly, just as I began to figure my wording my name rang out through the infirmary. My body turned to see a furious Stephanie and Zane who took too walking behind her.
