His hair curled under my touch as he held me tighter, "I missed you too, Cecily. Nothing has been the same since you left."

I pulled away slightly to look at his face. His high cheekbones were more prominent since I saw him last. His skin was paler making the blueness of his eyes disappear and become an eerie black like color. Something had really changed, he wasn't himself.

"I know......things have changed with me too."

"I can only imagine."

"You sure can." We both looked up to the voice, to see Zane leaning against the banister wearing a bored expression. His gaze narrowed on Carter, "Took you long enough to come and see how she was."

"Guest coming unannounced here isn't exactly your sort of thing, is it?" Carter snarled, "The Silent Brother's would only allow me here once they knew Cecily was safe."

"You were permitted to speak with the Silent Brothers?" His eyebrows furrowed in bored curiosity.

"Of course I was."

"Really? Last time I checked the Silent Brothers are not to speak to anyone outside the Clave."

"They make an exception with people like myself."

"And what are you exactly?"

"That's enough." I stepped in front of Carter to glare at Zane, "Come on Carter, I want to talk to you in private." I slipped my hand into Carter's scared one to lead us away from Zane's evil glares.

I started down the corridor toward the library as I sighed, "Sorry about him, he's...."

"A jerk?"

I shrugged feeling something knotted in my stomach at the word being used with Zane. It was one thing if I called him that, but hearing it from Carter just wasn't......right. "He isn't a jerk, just not the warmest person."

"Well, he seemed to act a whole lot like Tyler if you ask me."

I let the little comment roll into oblivion as I remembered her blueberry eyes staring at me,"How's Andrea?" I asked quietly.

"She kept asking where you were, but Jake is helping her get along I believe."

My heart fluttered,"Jake? Really?"

He nodded,"Yeah they're inseparable, but why...." I could see the thought finally bloom in his mind. "Oh, by the angel, I swear I can be so stupid."

I jostled his arm,"Hardly. Andrea and Jake are both too shy for anyone to see how they feel."

"What, so, you can see how loud people feel?"

I shrugged,"I don't know. Better then quiet people I guess."

"So, how am I feeling then?"

I stopped walking and faced him, studying his face. Putting a finger on my chin, I smirked,"I bet your thinking something about a girl?"

He leaned against the wall next to me,"Wow I guess it does work, but whose the girl?"

I let my finger drop from my chin,"Veronica."

His face contorted into an unreadable mask of emotion. "No."

"Really? Usually any guy at that stupid school is either thinking about her or sleeping with her."

"That's exactly why I don't think about her. She isn't worth a thought."

I nodded and started walking again,"She was the only one I think I truly hated at that school."I pushed the library doors open,"Her and Tyler were the worst."
