"No... Enjolras please!", I cried.

"I'm sorry, Melissa... but it would be better, if we won't see each other again.", he said quietly, looking down.

I took some steps back. "Enjolras, please, don't do this. I need you."

But he slightly shook his head. "No, you need your family. And as you said, your father wouldn't let me live, if they found out."

Although I agreed and disagreed with him I nodded. "So you just want to go and leave it like that? Forever?", I asked reproachfully.

"I'll die anyway. Your words.", Enjolras replied.

Tears rolled down my cheeks.

"I now have to fight for my country. And for you." He came toward me and kissed my forehead.

"There's no use in fighting for me anymore.", I whispered. "You won that battle in the first second I saw you. And you can't fight for France, it's hopeless. You will lose, you will lose and die, whom does this help?"

"Even if I will, it will change things.", he replied and wrapped his arms around me, kissing me gently. "I love you, Melissa. And when I die... remember, that my soul will find its way to you."

More tears ran down my cheeks and I sobbed quietly.

"I love you.", he whispered again, then he let go of me. Enjolras looked at me for another moment, then he turned around and walked away.

I was completely frozen. I couldn't move, I couldn't say anything. I just sank down on the ground and leaned back against the tree. Did that really just happen? Did he just... leave? Did he just leave me so he could die? I pulled my legs close to my chest, wrapped my arms around them and laid my head on my knees. Then I started crying.

I just couldn't believe that this just happened! He couldn't just leave me! He couldn't just go off to die!

"Melissa? Are you here?", I eventually heard Stefan. I didn't look up, I just continued crying. "Melissa, hey, what happened?" He ran toward me and knelt down next to me. "Melissa, are you alright?" I didn't look up, just shook my head. "What happened? Where's Enjolras?"

"He left... He left me to die on the barricade...", I whispered crying. Stefan laid one hand on my shoulder. "We should go. I'm sure your mom is worried sick - again." He got up and gave me his hand. He pulled me up and laid one arm around me to lead me home. My legs were weak, I couldn't walk properly. He held me tightly, so I wouldn't fall.

But I felt like I already was... I felt like I would fall inside a huge, dark hole with no hold...
Enjolras left me, he left to die... How could he? How could he just say, that everything was over?

Stefan an I arrived at the palace and my mother ran toward us. "Melissa! My God, what happened?", she asked upset, examined me and laid her hand on my cheek, trying to wipe my tears away. But I turned my head away, I couldn't look at her right now.

"I'll bring her to her room.", Stefan just said and brought me inside.
