"We don't have much time left. Anything else you want to do or say, do it now.", Jonathan hurried us. Enjolras took my hands and laid them on this chest.

"I swear to you, if I will survive this, I will marry you as soon as the battle is over and we shall spend the rest of my life with each other."

Tears ran down my cheeks, because I knew, that that would never happen.

"Melissa, you were the first person I ever loved. And you'll always be the only one. You brought love into my life, love for something other than my country and I have to thank you for that. Now I won't only fight for France, but also and especially for you. And I will always love you, even in death. Don't ever forget that, that's what you have to promise me."

He laid his hands around my face and kissed me gently.

"I promise. I swear, I won't ever forget it and I won't forget you. I love you.", I cried. He laid his lips on mine once again.

"Melissa, we have to go.", Jonathan said quietly. I took a deep breath and wiped the tears off my face.

"Everything will be fine.", Enjolras whispered. I nodded slightly, knowing we were both lying to each other. "I love you."

"And I love you.", he said.

Jonathan took my hand, mouthed a "good luck" to Enjolras and led me back to my parents.

"Melissa, are you alright?", my mother asked me, when we got back to them. "Yes... I just... I just realized that General Lamarque is dead, it hit me just now.", I lied.

"Oh, Melissa, I'm so sorry, I knew you really liked him. And he adored you.", she said and hugged me tightly.

I a murmur going through the crowd and turned to see a carriage coming closer.

Enjolras was once again standing on the other side of the street, looking around with a cold expression on his face.

The carriage passed by us and my mother's eyes filled with tears. I squeezed Jonathan's arm, I was nervous and afraid.

Suddenly Enjolras ran onto the street and started waving a giant red flag.

"Vive la France!", many people started shouting.

"Oh no.", I heard my father's furious voice beside me.

"Melissa, we have to go now, you might get hurt.", Jonathan said quietly.

More and more people ran onto the street and joined the crusade, as Enjolras climbed onto the carriage - he seemed so passionate about it, how could I have stopped him from doing this? No one could habe.

"Please, not yet...", I whispered to Jonathan.

"We have to, come on."

"My daughter! Get her away from here! Now!", I heard my father's orders. Jonathan pulled me away, but I broke away from him. I wanted to run toward the carriage, but he and Stefan were faster and grabbed my arms to pull me away from potential danger. They led me to our carriage and helped me insde, Jonathan sat next to me, while Stefan ran back to get my parents. I kept trying to get out and run back myself, but Jonathan was undoubtably much stronger than I was.

"Melissa, please stop! You can't go back. It's too dangerous and your parents will be here any minute.", he said, as he held me back in my seat.

"But-"

"Melissa! Melissa, darling, are you alright? Are you hurt?", my mother shouted hysterically, as she ran toward us, two guards on each side and Stefan in front of her to shield her.

"I'm fine.", I lied.

"Come, we have to go. Everyone's mad out there.", my father barked, as he got into the carriage as well. He ordered the coachman to push the horses to go as fast as possible, as Stefan jumped on the rack on the back of the coach.  The wheels started rolling and I tried to look back, but I couldn't spot Enjolras anywhere within the crowd...
