A few hours later she awoke to a light tapping on the door, which manifested into a loud knocking. "Amber, please," Aidan said, "Open the door. Please. I'm sorry." She reluctantly opened the door. Before Aidan could even get a word out, Amber spoke. "I can't do this anymore," she mumbled. "I'm so sorry, Amber, I really am," he said, his voice filled with shame. He vaguely remembered what had happened, but that didn't make it acceptable. And he knew that. He tried to pull her into a hug, but she resisted, pushing him aside. He should have known better. She had never been the kind of person to give in like that, to forgive and forget. But all he wanted to do was hold her.
