Bright lights flooded into her fluttering and sensitive eyes, now opening for the first time in days. As Amber struggled to focus on something, anything, she felt the pressure of someone's hand in her own. A rush of fear paralysed her, as she didn't know who it was, but somehow, the touch was comforting.

Aidan's heart skipped a beat as he saw Amber's eyes flutter open. He knew that she hated him, but never before had he been so glad to see a person. He loved her, maybe even more than just as a friend. He was terrified of how she was going to react to seeing him there, but still took her hand in his, even if only for a moment. Amber struggled to see, and Aidan tried to calm her as her panic set in. "Shhhh, Amber, it's okay, sweetheart. It's okay," he reassured her, cringing slightly for fear of a violent reaction to hearing his voice. Finally, Amber was able to focus, and she focused on Aidan's face. Quickly, she yanked her hand from his grasp and his heart sank. She stared at him, a look of pure horror in her eyes, unable to move due to the cast on her right leg. "Amber, honey," Aidan began, but she cut him off. "Wh-who are you?"
