Early November 2014

Isis

I rocked back and forth in my seat at Jefferson Hospital as Artemis, Prince, Ray, Prod, Brittany, Jari, Juno, Miss Wendy, Miss Janet, Walter, Keisha, Kenneth, and Roc's family waited for news on Roc.

Keisha, Kenneth, Walter, and Roc's family flew out as soon as possible when we called to tell them about Roc. Everyone had tears in their eyes as we thought about Roc.

"I'm s-so s-sorry." Artemis stuttered for the umpteenth time.

"No, no. Artemis, sweetie, you couldn't have known that that boy was gonna shot Chresanto. Baby girl, don't beat your self up." Miss Tameka, Roc's mom, soothed her yet again.

"I should have waited in the school. I should've- I-I should've...Oh God. I'm so sorry." Artemis cried. Prince pulled her into his arms. "Isis, Miss Tameka, I'm so sorry."

"It's okay. Roc's tough. He'll make it. Roc's a fighter. He'll make it." Ray said.

"Chresanto August?" A doctor with bloody gloves asked. Everyone, but myself stood up.

"How is he? How's my son?" Miss Tameka asked frantically.

"Chresanto is perfectly fine. The bullet didn't go near any important organs. It looked almost as if it swerved its self away from the heart and lungs-- like it knew how important those organs were. I'm not supposed to say this, but God really works miracles and He works in mysterious ways. He really performed a miracle tonight for Chresanto." The doctor smiled.

"Oh thank God!" We all cried out.

"The surgery went extremely well. We were able to get all of the bullet fragments out of him. He's awake now, but he's only asking for one person and only one person." He said.

"And who is that?" Keisha asked.

"An Isis Drake." The doctor said and everyone turned to me.

"He's asking for me?" I wiped my tears.

"Yes, ma'am. He said he only wants to see his love." The doctor smiled.

"What room is he in?" I asked.

"128."

I got up and ran to room 128, to see Roc. I ran passed room after room, getting yelled at by nurses to slow down, just to see the boy that has changed me so much.

"Rocky!" I cried as I threw the door to room 128 open.

I looked around the medium sized hospital room to see Roc halfway between laying down and sitting up on the hospital bed with tubes and wires all over him.

"ICCE." Roc coughed out a smile. "Babe. I mean, Isis."

"Oh, Roc." I walked over to his bed. "How are you, baby?"

"I'm fine. Tell Artemis not to beat herself up. I would take a bullet for her anyday. That's my nigga." He smiled then coughed.

"Do you need anything?" I asked as I played with his short curly black, gold hair.

"I have you. I'm fine." He sighed. "Well, in a certain way I have you."

"Roc, please don't do this to me. I want to take you back, but...." I sighed deeply.

"I messed up one too many times. I know. But Isis, I love you. That's one thing I'm sure about. I'm not sure if I'll cheat again or of what city I'll be in by February, but I am sure of the fact that I love you more than I have ever loved any person in my life. Please take me back. It kills me inside everyday to not be able to hold and kiss you like I wish to." He said as he stared into my eyes. He reached up to wipe a tear.
