It had been three weeks since Jane and Maura confessed their love for one another, three weeks of secret kissing, love making, sleeping over at each other's house, sweet nothings, constant talking, and Jane couldn't be happier. Right now they were sitting on Jane's couch, legs tangled together and hands being held as they reminisced about the past."I remember the day that kid in grade eleven and his two friends all pulled like ten fire alarms at once." Maura said, she remembers that day because she'd never seen a panic like that at the time, and her first main concern was finding Jane.
"Oh yeah that was horrible."
Maura sat in her Math class taking notes. It was a boring old Friday, but she was excited because she was riding home with Jane. She loved going home with Jane. Well of course Jane actually had a soccer game that night, and then she was going home with Jane.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by the sound of a fire alarm going off."There isn't a drill today. Go, hurry single file but go." Her teacher rushed her class. She was nervous, which made Maura nervous. Then suddenly a different one went off, and then another one. The entire hall was trying to cram out and get outside. Maura was being pushed and shoved as teachers yelled.
"Go, stop pushing and shoving and just get out the doors!"
Maura was nervous and she couldn't find Jane. She knew Jane was only two doors up and she couldn't see her. She was so busy looking for the Italian she didn't see the elbow that came out of nowhere and hit her right in the mouth. The person turned around and apologized over and over, she nodded and covered her mouth then walked out. Once she was outside she pulled her hand away to see it covered in blood.
"Maura? Maura are you-Jesus what the fuck happened?" Jane asked pissed. Her best friends mouth was pouring blood. Maura covered her mouth again. "Okay come with me." Jane said. She made sure no teachers were looking and she pulled Maura a row back behind the parking lot and behind a car. "Spit." Maura shook her head. "Well Maura your mouth is full of blood you'll choke, just spit." Jane said and Maura looked at her skeptically before finally bending over and spitting all of it out of her mouth.
"I hate the taste of blood." She said over the alarms, four more different ones had gone off.
"What happened?" Jane asked. "Did someone hurt you?"
"Not on purpose. I was distracted. They apologized."
"Promise they apologized?"
"I promise." Maura made a smile with no teeth but spit out some more just as three firetrucks pulled in.
"I don't smell any smoke." Jane said.
"I don't either, I believe it was a prank." Maura said and Jane nodded.
"Here." Jane said getting a pack of gum from her back pocket then grabbing a stick of gum and handing it to Maura.
"Thank you." Maura said and gracefully took the gum.
"Come on, we have to get back to everyone." Jane said and Maura agreed.
"That was the worst day ever." Maura said. "I hate the taste of blood and I had that taste in my mouth for three whole days! No matter how many times I brushed." She cringed at the memory.
