"Mom!" I ran over to her and gave her a hug.I couldn't believe it! She was awake!
"I truly am sorry for not answering you when you called me downstairs. If I had come any sooner..."
"Sweetie", mom said, cutting me off, "This isn't your fault. None of us knew what was coming. It just happened."
I shed a tear.
My mom and I talked about school for a while.
I was telling her about Hazel when we heard a knock at the door.
It was Zack.
"And who might this be?" Mom asked sweetly.
"This is Zack", I said smiling. He's..... a friend.
Zack looked at me when I said that.
"Are you sure?" She asked, smirking.
"No," I said.
"Actually, I'm her boyfriend", said Zack. He put his arm around me.
I blushed.
Did. He. Just. Say.....
BOYFRIEND?!?
As in "more than friends"?
As in "I'm his girlfriend"?
Boyfriend?!?
I smiled and squeezed him a little too hard.(:
He smiled back.
I blushed.
He blushed.
I smiled.
He smiled.
"Well I approve!" said mom, breaking the not-so-awkward-silence.
Just then a doctor came in.
"How are you feeling?" She asked my mom.
"Great!" She said.
"That's fantastic!", the doctor said. "We will just have to run a few tests, but you can go home tomorrow!"
We all cheered!
"Oh, I forgot!" She said, "We'll have to run a test on your daughter, too. We found a small sickness in you that could be hereditary."
I froze.
Me?
"When will the tests be done?" Mom asked.
"Well, you can have them done now or you can schedule one sometime tomorrow."
"We'll do it today", I said.
"Okay, follow me", the doctor said.
We walked down a long hallway that led into a small room.
She told me to sit in a chair while she took my blood sample.
The needle hurt slightly, but it hurt worse when she pulled it out and patched it up.
Then she looked into a machine and told me I could leave.
I walked back to my mom's room.
"Are you okay?", Zack asked when I sat down.
"I don't know. We'll see, I guess," I replied.
"I'm sorry sweetheart. I honestly didn't know," said mom.
"Mom," I said, "It's not your fault. You didn't know."
"Let's get some dinner", she said.
"Good idea!"
We ordered a pepperoni pizza and ate while we watched Inside Out.
When it was over, Zack and I said goodbye and left.
He walked me into my house, gave me a hug, and left.
I was really tired from such a long day, but I was too scared about those tests to sleep.
I stayed up all night watching reruns of That's So Raven (my favorite childhood show) and eating popcorn.
Tomorrow was going to be the scariest day of my life, and I had no idea.
