"Class, please take out your reports on The Odyssey", Ms. Vasquez told us.
"Shoot!" I forgot mine at home.
I slowly raised my hand. "Ummm... Ms. Vasquez?" She didn't see me.
"Ms. Vasquez?" I said a little bit louder. She didn't see again.
"MS. VASQUEZ!!!" I yelled this time. She didn't hear me and once again, she didn't see me. So I walked up to her desk.
"Ummm... Ms. Vasquez?" This time she looked at me. "Yes Miss Summers?"
"I uh... I forgot my report at home." I laughed nervously.
She stared at me. She didn't say a word. Just stared.
Ms. Vasquez is probably one of the meanest, oldest, grumpiest teachers at Ridgeton High.
Honestly, I'm a little surprised that she's still alive. She has to be over 90.
Everyone hates her. Including me.
"Ms. Summers, is it not true that I have given you plenty of time to complete this assignment?"
"Yes, ms. Vasquez but-
"And is it not true that I have reminded you excessively to bring it in today?"
"Yes, ms. Vasquez but-
"Then I guess I have no choice but to write you up." She said as she gave me a bright red slip.
"But Ms. Vasquez I-
"No buts! Out! Now!" She was angry.
Even her wrinkles were shaking. I left.
The big red office slip is kind of like a get-out-of-jail-free card.
I guess detention should be more of a jail than class, but with Ms. Vasquez, it's a prison.
Also, I kind of like detention. Yeah, it's boring and all but it makes you feel kind of cool.
You get to sit with all of the bad boys for an hour so they kind of start to notice you more.
I mean, if your as lame and shy as I am, it's great to feel cool once in a while.
My name is Melody Summers, but call me Mel.
I'm about as unpopular as you can get.
I wear the same thing every day- a blank t-shirt, jeans, and my black sneakers, and I always put my long, ratchet hair into a low ponytail.
I'm really awkward and pretty much no one even knows that I exist.
I'm really shy and don't have that many friends.
Also, I will probably never have a date to the prom.
Maybe detention will make me cool and solve all of those problems...
...just kidding...
I'm hopeless.
