(In detention)

"Ok, delinquents", Ms. Vasquez spoke. "Slight change of plans. I have to go to a dinner party with my rich husband, so you all will be monitored by this little camera." She pointed to a security camera in the corner of the room that stopped working ages ago. "Bye- bye!" She yelled as she walked out of the classroom.

We all paused for a minute after she left, but then the room became a party! Everyone else was drinking root beer and jumping on the desks while I sat in the back, working on my homework quietly.

I was finishing a math project when someone tapped me on the shoulder. Ugh! I always get so shy when talking to people! I thought to myself.

I turned around to face a girl. She was a little shorter than me with short, blonde hair and hazel eyes. H...h...hi" I stuttered, trying to make out the word "hi".

"Hi" she said smiling.

"Wait, can you see me?........ Like actually see me?" I asked her.

"Yeah. Why? Are you like invisible or something?"

I laughed.  "No, but most people don't notice me. I don't know why. Maybe it's my shyness".

"Well I noticed you. You're the only person in here not partying. Come on! Have some fun!" She said.

I wanted to say no, but before I could say anything, she grabbed my arm and dragged me over to her friends.

"Guys", she said, "this is my new friend...." What's your name? She whispered to me. Mel. I told her. "This is my new friend Mel." They smiled.

"Hi Mel" one of them said. It was the hunk!!! The hunk from the office!! He looked even hotter in detention!!

"Hazel", another guy said, "Why didn't you tell me you had such a hot friend?" I blushed.

"Nit wad" she said back. I chuckled.

Wow, Hazel's a pretty name I thought to myself.

I walked around for a little bit, hoping some other people would notice me, but it was hopeless.

When detention was over, I went outside to get my skateboard to go home. I was just about to leave when I saw that hunk from the office again. But he wasn't alone this time. He was with a girl, a senior.

I put down my skateboard and snuck behind a tree to get a closer view. This girl had long blonde hair and was wearing a half top and short shorts.

  And I mean SHORT!

She was popular, too. I know because there is a list that these girls made where they rank you on how popular you are.

I didn't even make it on the list.

Maybe that's why boys don't like me.

I'm not skinny like other girls, and I don't have long luscious blonde hair, and I don't wear ten pounds of makeup.

But there's something that I have that they don't...

  A BRAIN.
